High-Level Delegation from Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila – Kano, Visits Embassy of Egypt in Abuja, Nigeria

A high-level delegation from Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, led by it's Vice Chancellor Professor Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Abuja to strengthen academic collaboration and seek the implementation of the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Al-Azhar University, Cairo, and Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila.

During the visit, the delegation RE- Forwarded a formal request titled:
REQUEST FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MoU) BETWEEN AL-AZHAR UNIVERSITY, CAIRO AND AL-ISTIQAMA UNIVERSITY, SUMAILA, KANO STATE - NIGERIA

The (MoU) seeks to establish collaboration between the two universities in many key areas:

The visit underscores Al-Istiqama University’s commitment to internationalization, academic excellence, and inclusive education in line with global best practices.

In his Remark, the Ambassador of Egypt to Nigeria His Excellency Muhammad Fouad and his deputy delighted to receive the AUSU delegation, here at the Embassy of Egypt in Abuja.

Stated that, 'Egypt and Nigeria share longstanding educational and cultural ties, and Al-Azhar University remains committed to advancing knowledge, promoting peace, and strengthening cooperation with institutions across Africa.

Acordingly, we have taken note of your request for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Al-Azhar and Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila. The areas of collaboration you presented — particularly the teaching of Arabic Sign Language, Braille Qur’an, and Arabic for non-speakers — align with our shared values of inclusion and access to education, he says.

The Embassy will transmit your proposals to Al-Azhar University and the relevant authorities in Cairo for necessary action.

We look forward to deepening this partnership for the mutual benefit of our students, scholars, and both nations.

Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila (AUSU) Seeks Strategic Partnership with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for Institutional Digitalization.

A high delegation from Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, comprising of the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya, the Academic Secretary, Alhaji Hassan Abdurrahman and Nura Audi Usman, the Personal Assistant to the Founder paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to humbly request partnership and support for the digital transformation of the university campus.

In his Remarks, the Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Founder of the University, Sen. Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, OFR, Ph.D, the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of the University, appreciates the DG and his management for granting them audience. He further said they were at the Agency to strengthen the linkage between industry and academia. He briefed the Agency about the history of AUSU. The delegation formally commended NITDA for it's tireless efforts in promoting digital awareness and enhancing ICT infrastructure across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

The University formally seek for the intervention of the Agency in the digitalization of its academic and administrative operations as the institution is dedicated to academic excellence.

Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, is committed to aligning with the Federal Government’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0: 2024-2027) for fostering an inclusive digital economy.

Acordingly, the Vice-Chancellor added; To prepare our students for the global workforce and ensure a robust digital ecosystem, we recognized that traditional teaching methods must be complemented with modern digital tools, infrastructure, and capacity-building initiatives in emergingtechnologies such as Artificial intelligence and Cyber security. He added that no institution can succeed in isolation.

The Vice-Chancellor requested for setting up a joint working group to move the discussions from dialogue to action. He finally thanked the management of NITDA for the warm reception.

NUC Grants Full Accreditation to 11 Programmes at Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano

The Management of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State, is pleased to announce that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Full Accreditation status to a total of eleven (11) academic programmes following the comprehensive accreditation exercise conducted in November and December 2025.

According to the official report released by the NUC, the programmes were assessed based on the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), with emphasis on curriculum content, quality of academic staff, physical facilities, library resources, and employers’ rating.

The programmes granted Full Accreditation are:

Faculty of Health Sciences:
• Community Health Science
• Nursing Science
• Public Health

Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences:
• Shari’ah
• Criminology and Security Studies
• International Relations
• Sociology

Faculty of Science and Computing:

This achievement affirms the University’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and reflects the dedication and professionalism of its academic and administrative staff in building a centre of excellence. With this development, all accredited programmes have secured full recognition for a period of five (5) years.

Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) delegation pays courtesy visit to Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila (AUSU).

Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila received a high-level delegation from Khairun University led by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdurrashid Garba, alongside the Registrar, Malam Yusuf Datti among Senior University officials, on a courtesy visit to strengthen inter-university relationship.

In his remarks, Professor Garba apologized to Al-Istiqama University (AUSU) management for the delay in reciprocating the visit, noting that AUSU had visited KHAIRUN University on five different occasions.

The KHAIRUN VC, Prof Garba, emphasized that both institutions share some common sense peculiarities like Qur’anic studies, entrepreneurship, and morality, acknowledging that Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila is playing a leading role while KHAIRUN and other universities are following suit. He concluded by thanking the Vice Chancellor of AUSU, Prof. Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya, for clearing his schedule to receive the delegation, and urged both institutions to strengthen their inter-university relationship for years to come.

In his response, Prof. Kumurya, the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila expressed appreciation to the Khairun University management for the visit. He particularly thanked the KHAIRUN Vice-Chancellor for creating time out of his tight schedules to visit Al-Istiqama University.

Prof. Kumurya reiterated the need for both universities to strengthen their partnership and suggested the formation of a committee, including the Registrars of both institutions, to process a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the universities particularly in areas like joint research projects, joint publications, joint conferences and workshops, joint applications for research grants, resources sharing and community engagement.

He also briefed the KHAIRUN delegation on the history of AUSU and confirmed that the university now has seven facilities and runs 41 undergraduate programmes, including the newly introduced programs in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Prof. Kumurya added that the University recently established School of Postgraduate Studies.

The visit featured a facility tour led by Prof. Kumurya to the newly established Faculty of Law, the newly completed faculty building for the Faculty of Engineering andEnvironmentalSciences, and the College of Medicine and Health Sciences site. The event concluded with an official group photograph.

The management of Al-Istiqama University Sumaila paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy President of the Senate Sen. Barau Jibrin at his residence in Abuja led by the University Proprietor, Sen. Kawu Sumaila OFR, Ph.D

The meeting aimed at strengthening institutional relationships, fostering collaboration and discussing avenues for the advancement of education and development initiatives. The management also appreciated the Deputy Senate President for his continuous support towards educational support and national development

The Proprietor and Founder of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano, Senator S.A. Kawu Sumaila, OFR, Ph.D., led a high-level delegation on a courtesy visit to the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, at the State House, Abuja.

The delegation comprised Professor Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya, Vice-Chancellor; Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, Pro-Chancellor; Dr. Kabiru Musa Alhaji, Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Kabiru Muhammad Kofa, Immediate Past Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Malam Hassan Abdurrahman, Academic Secretary; Nura Audi Usman, among other senior officials.

Senate Sanctions Nine Students Over Examination Malpractice at Al-Istiqama University

The management of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano, has rusticated nine students for their involvement in examination malpractice during the first semester examinations of the 2025/2026 academic session.

This was disclosed in a Special Bulletin issued by the university’s Registry following the approval of the institution’s Senate after reviewing reported cases of examination misconduct and plagiarism.

According to the internal memo released to the university community, the affected students were found guilty of violating the institution’s examination regulations. Consequently, the Senate approved their rustication for one academic session as part of disciplinary measures aimed at maintaining academic integrity and upholding the university’s standards.

The decision reflects the university’s firm commitment to promoting honesty, discipline, and fairness within its academic environment. The management reiterated that examination malpractice and all forms of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Al-Istiqama University further urged students to adhere strictly to examination rules and regulations, emphasizing that maintaining integrity is essential to the institution’s mission of producing morally upright and academically sound graduates.

The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano, Professor Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya, paid an inspection visit to the University’s ICT Hall as students commenced their first ever Computer Based Test (CBT) examination for General Studies courses.

During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the examination and the level of preparedness displayed by both staff and students. He described the successful take-off of the CBT examination as a significant milestone in the University’s drive toward digital transformation and E-learning integration.

Professor Kumurya commended the ICT Coordinator and the entire ICT team for their dedication, professionalism, and tireless efforts in ensuring the seamless ex*****on of the examination. He noted that their commitment reflects the University’s vision of embracing innovation to enhance academic excellence.

The inspection further reaffirmed the University management’s resolve to continue investing in technology driven learning and assessment systems, positioning Al-Istiqama University as a forward thinking institution in the Nigerian higher education landscape.
