*ABIA STATE UNIVERSITY DEBATE CLUB*
*_A Note of Appreciation and Reflection on the Year 2025_*
The 2025 competitive season marked a landmark year for the Abia State University Debate Club, as debaters and speakers consistently represented the university with excellence across major national and regional tournaments. With support from the school management and the student-friendly Dean of Student Affairs, the club was graced with the opportunity to represent the school in several intellectual competitions.
From the All Nigerian Youth Debate Championship (Benin) to the All Nigerian Universities Debating Championship (Ilorin), the Lagos Debate Open, and international-level platforms like the West African Universities Debate Championship, members recorded outstanding performances in debating, public speaking, adjudication, and tab mastery.
Achievements include multiple finalist and semi-finalist positions, best speaker awards, novice recognitions, and judging honors, reflecting the depth of talent, discipline, and commitment within the club.
The Club also deeply appreciates the efforts of all those who made this possible: the Founder of the Club, Dr. Sheebs Emmanuel, who, with his commitment to the Club's development, has kept its floodgates of intellects open; the Dean of Student Affairs, Dist. Prof. Dick Uduma, who, ever since assuming office, has flagged his support for the club and kept his promises; the club Coach, Sir Christopher Lekwuwa and Grace Eziri, who made a pledge of commitment to ever be available and ready to commit to the growth of the club; and the club President, Oguine Jide, we say thank you.
And to every committed member of the club – Annemarie, Miracle Emmanuel, Daberechi Shulamite, Victor, Favour Onuoha, Daniel, Sammy, Michael, Cynthia, Gospel Felix, Prudence and many others to mention – this is a message of gratitude and encouragement for your commitment to the growth of the club.
The 2025 season stands as a testament to the growth of competitive debating and public speaking at Abia State University, powered by teamwork, mentorship, and a shared passion for excellence.
