UUMSA MOURNS : WE PRAY FOR SOLACE.

With sorrows in our hearts but with total submission to the will of God, today the President of UUMSA along with the leaders of other affiliated medical students associations led the candle light procession and prayers for our beloved colleague, Late. Aisha Celestina Ogwu who was among the three medical students that lost their lives in the Marina Resort boat mishap in Calabar, last week. She was also laid to rest today in her home in Benue State.

In the UUMSA President's speech at the event, he emphasized the following:

¶ that he has declared a 14-Day mourning period on her behalf. During this period, all medical students will be in sober moods. All activities of UUMSA , affiliated bodies and committees are hereby SUSPENDED for this period.

¶ that UUMSA will set up a 7-year MEMORIAL SUPPORT SCHEME in memory of Aisha. While with us, and as the Face of UUMSA (2019/2020), she was devoted to humanitarian service. UUMSA will donate the sum of ₦25,000 annually to this fund and during every UUMSA health week, it will be used for humanitarian services to support the less privileged. We will also open this scheme up for donation by public-spirited individuals and the proceeds will be used SOLELY( emphasy on "solely") for this humanitarian purpose.

We pray for the repose of her soul and comfort to her family, friends and colleagues.

Special thanks to the President, Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Akwa Ibom State, Dr Ekaette Mbatt and her immediate predecessor for joining us.
I also appreciate the Personal Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Comr. Wisdom Emmanuel for the show of support.

UUMSA MOURNS: A STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY OF UYO MEDICAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (UUMSA)

With sorrow in our hearts I write to inform the entire members of the University of Uyo Medical Students Association (UUMSA), the entire University community, other medical students in NiMSA and the entire public of the sudden demise of our friend, colleague and sister Late Comr. Aisha Celestina Ogwu.

On Saturday, 24th June, 2023, she was involved in a boat cruise mishap at Marina Resort, Calabar during the National Health week of the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NiMSA) . Despite rescue measures, she went missing in the waters along with two other medical students until their bodies were found afloat barely 48 hours after the incidence.

Until her demise, Aisha Celestina Ogwu was a devoted 400L medical student of our prestigious University of Uyo, a former FACE OF UUMSA, a dedicated Medico-entrepreneur and a dutiful Christian. Her dexterity and interest in the development of the association was exemplary.

We are extremely saddened by this unfortunate incidence which had thrown us into unexpected mourning. But we cannot question the almighty God.

On this note, all social, political and sundry activities of UUMSA is hereby SUSPENDED for the time being. All committees and affiliated bodies with ongoing programmes should put such on hold in honour of our deseased colleague. A procession in her honour will be held later on a date that will be communicated across.
Medical students are currently in sober moods and request for closure from all concerned individuals in this trying moment of their lives.

We wish the family, friends, colleagues and the entire institution the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Farewell comrade .
