What should ESP celebrate after 25 years?

Maarten has a simple answer. The people who have been part of it.

Over 25 years, ESP has educated physiotherapists who have taken their knowledge and experience into clinics and communities around the world. Many have also found their way back, contributing as PAP clients, clinical instructors and members of the wider ESP community.

For Maarten, that continued connection is something to be proud of. Graduation may finish the programme, but it does not necessarily finish someone’s relationship with ESP.

On 18 September, we bring those different generations together for ESP25. Ticket registration is almost closed, with the final information available on the ESP25 page.

Intro Week 2026 is a wrap.

ESP Class of 2029 has spent the week getting to know the programme, Amsterdam and, most importantly, each other.

There were workshops, Games Day, plenty of movement and plenty of moments together. A full first week and the beginning of a new journey for this group.

Boxes unpacked. Benches moved. Jump photo achieved. ESP is ready. 😉

Last week, these rooms were still full of boxes and moving chaos. Today, everything is in place for tomorrow.

Our practical classes have a new home in B3.06 and B3.09 on the third floor of the B wing. D0.50, you served us well.

A huge thank you to Chloe, Harper, Jasper, Max, Sarah, Kyriaki, Annisha and Kenny, together with the ESP staff, for making it happen.

What did ESP get really right?

According to Jan Jaap, it was bringing the world to Amsterdam.

Instead of travelling around the world to educate physiotherapists, ESP created an international classroom here in Amsterdam, bringing together people from different countries, backgrounds and generations.

Different stories, different journeys, one shared purpose: becoming physiotherapists and making the world a little better.

Some stay in the Netherlands. Some return home. Others continue somewhere completely new. That is the ESP journey.

This September, many of those journeys will cross again at ESP25.

Amsterdam is having a hot summer. Adrien’s photo clearly had other plans. ❄️

Meet Adrien Lavigne, who will soon begin his ESP journey as part of the Class of 2029.

What attracts Adrien most to physiotherapy is the human journey: the positive social impact, the fascinating work with the body, and the opportunity to support people through recovery.

As a sports lover, he understands how deeply injury recovery can affect people’s lives. He is also looking forward to international internships from Year 1 and becoming part of an international class and learning environment.

Are you ready for our next story?

Meet Bettina Rühl.

After graduating from ESP, Bettina’s physiotherapy career took her to New Zealand and Australia. Today, she is based in Melbourne, where she works in occupational health.(https://www.healthworks.com.au/)

Her role brings physiotherapy into the workplace, combining treatment with workplace health promotion across a wide range of workplaces and industries.

It is a part of the profession that is sometimes less visible: supporting health not only in the clinic, but also in the places where people work every day.

Bettina is happy to connect with anyone curious about working as a physiotherapist in Australia or New Zealand, or exploring occupational health as a career path.

And by the way, Bettina will also be joining us at ESP25 this September.

Meet Anna Kohlmann.

Anna graduated from ESP in 2017. After working in physiotherapy practices in the Netherlands, she returned to Germany.

Today, she is Therapieleitung at VITREA Rehaklinik Bad Ems, where she leads therapy teams and works in orthopaedic rehabilitation.

Her journey is a good reminder that a physiotherapy career can grow in many directions. Different settings, new responsibilities and plenty to keep learning along the way.

ESP25 is getting closer, and the programme is now taking more shape.

We’ve updated the ESP25 page with the latest day programme, workshops, social activities and practical information for invited participants.

During the day, we’ll look back at 25 years of ESP through stories, expertise, workshops and shared memories. In the evening, of course, we’ll celebrate together. 🥳

A little later than planned, but this celebration is well deserved.

Earlier this month, our Professional Assignment Project conference marked the finish of months of curiosity, research, and hard work and showed once again the creativity of our ESP students.

This year’s projects explored different sides of physiotherapy. From supporting women’s health and safer return to sport after injury, to improving clinical reasoning and concussion management in youth athletes.

Congratulations to our poster, presentation, thesis, and product award winners. And a big well done to everyone who shared their work.
