FAM students

𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 (𝗙𝗔𝗠) is a students association based in Amsterdam. We aim to actively create a community for all and first-generation students.

Founded in 2018 and officially established in 2021, Family of Academic Minds is an inclusive student association that commits to creating a welcoming community for all students. Diversity and inclusion are our main ideals, on the basis of which our events are organized. Through educative events, partially in cooperation with our partners, we aim to broaden diversity and inclusion within academia a

nd the workplace. Our recreational events strengthen the sense of togetherness among our members, consequently contributing to FAM’s goal to create a welcoming community for every student. Our activities are focused on academia, career future, society critical, diversity and inclusion and fun! We organize multiple events throughout the academic year and we also have a Family Group program where students can be matched up with other students from different backgrounds. Hi everybody, my name is Yacine, and I am part of the event committee. I am originally from Senegal, but I grew up in Italy. I can speak Wolof, Italian, English, French, and Spanish, and I’m excited to learn many more.
I am a second-year anthropology student, and in my spare time I love to watch series from different countries and read.
I joined FAM in 2024 because I just loved the diversity and am so grateful for all the people I have met during the events.
My favorite fam event was the Family Feud; it was so chaotic and fun. I’m looking forward to organizing many other events so people can have fun together.

MEET THE FAM: Hi everyone! My name is Nawaf, and I’m part of the Marketing Committee. I’m originally from Yemen, and currently living in Amsterdam. I speak Arabic, English and I’m still working on my Dutch (slowly but surely 😄).

Right now, I’m studying at HvA. In my free time, I enjoy the gym, coffee, filming and designing.

I joined FAM in 2026 because I enjoyed designing and wanted to contribute creatively while working with a team and sharing ideas.

My favorite FAM memory so far has been meeting new people and experiencing different cultures in a really welcoming atmosphere.

MEET THE FAMILY: Hi everyone! My name is Anton, and I’m part of the Marketing Committee. I’m originally from India, was raised in Qatar, and speak Tamil, Hindi, English, and Dutch (just a bit, tho haha).

I’m an exchange student at VU from the UK. In my free time, I play football, read comics, play video games and make short films.

I joined FAM in 2025 because I liked getting to meet people from different backgrounds and explore different cultures through their diverse and fun events.

My favourite memory at FAM so far was the Eid potluck because I am a foodie and I got to eat different types of foods like Jollof Rice and Butter Chicken!
