MICReLa - Mutual intelligibility of closely related languages

MICReLa - Mutual intelligibility of closely related languages MICReLa is a project focussing on mutual intelligibility (the degree to which speakers of different languages are able to understand each other).

In Europe a large number of languages are spoken. These languages enjoy different statuses, some are officially recognized, while others are spoken by minority populations. Respect for linguistic diversity is a core EU value but the linguistic diversity can lead to communication problems. In our project we want to investigate how well speakers from closely related European languages understand eac

h other and which factors play a role for the mutual intelligibility (the degree to which speakers of different languages can understand each other while each speaking their own language) of closely related languages. In order to do this, we are conducting a large-scale experiment. We are always looking for participants, translators, research and student assistants (sometimes as an internship, sometimes paid), so we will regularly post calls here.

Dear all,

We are looking for people with Swedish as their native language and a good understanding of English, who are willing to translate a few texts for us from English to Swedish.

Unfortunately we cannot pay the translators, but we can offer them a certificate from the University of Groningen that states they actively participated in our project.

So are you interested or do you know someone that might be interested in helping us, then please send an email to [email protected].

Many thanks in advance!
