OCEAN INDUSTRY HACKATHON 2024: A huge THANK YOU to all Hackathon 2024 participants - students, young career professionals, mentors, jury, our great team and our photographers!
We recently wrapped up an incredible two day hackathon on 24 and 25 January, it was a resounding success thanks to the enthusiasm and talent of all who joined us. This event was not just about competition, it was a vibrant collaboration among students and early career professionals passionate about solving real world challenges in the maritime and ocean industries.
A special thanks to our partners DNB, DNV, Kongsberg Gruppen, Nor-Shipping, BI Norwegian Business School, Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge (USN), OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University (OceanLab) and - Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet (NMB). Your support was instrumental in making this event fruitful and engaging. Also a big thank you to Oslo kommune for financial support – we know we made you proud with this hackathon which makes Oslo even a tiny bit more attractive for international students and indeed Norwegian ones too.
Hosted in our home at the Norges Rederiforbund (Norwegian Shipowners' Association) in Oslo, the hackathon buzzed with innovative ideas and solutions. It was inspiring to see such dedication and creativity in addressing the challenges facing our oceans and maritime operations.
The six groups picked the following names: Emissions Flow, AquaLink, Oslo_Green_Farms, Marine Eco Drive, Hydro Heroes, and AQSYS – The Future of Port Management.
As a result of the jury’s trouble to pick a winner, because they were all so good (!), we finally had to make a draw between two of them: AQSYS and AquaLink.
The winner was AquaLink who won the prize for NOK 10,000. Their solution will solve the problem of limited access to electric boat chargers, combined with the collection of oceanic data to be used for research and other applications. Genious!
So congrats to Jonas Kittilsen Dall (OsloMet), Eirik Holm (OsloMet), Natan Kacper Podlesny (OsloMet), Steven Myrseth (BI), Kumar Saurabh (BI), Ammar Saqib (BI), and Johannes Javorsky (BI) – you were a great team, guys!
Thank you Dr Khalid Abbas for yet another successful hackathon, the jurors Dr Randi Lunnan (BI), Bern Blikstad (DNB) and Embla Larsdotter Holten (DNV)for a challenging job this time, and thank you to the support team Agnese Zvirbule and Synnøve Marie Kvam without whom there would have been no hackathon for sure!
Also a big thank you to our lecturer Alex Alcocer, and our mentors Henrik Sjöblom, Gabriela Stojicevic, Jan Kjetil Paulsen, Odin Aadland, Robin Tomren, Ole Drange and Burhaan Mohammed Hassan.
Last, but not least, thank you to our main photographer Mantas Grigaliunas!
