The Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics, University of Oslo is situated in Svein Rosseland's house at Blindern Campus. The institute was founded in 1934 by Professor Rosseland with financial support from the Rockefeller Foundation.

Experiencing a total solar eclipse is a highlight for many solar physicists. For RoCS researchers Reetika Joshi, Pooja Devi and Guoyin Chen, the Solar MHD 2026 meeting in A Coruña combined scientific discussions on solar eruptions with a spectacular total solar eclipse on the Spanish coast. 🌞🌑🔭🇪🇸✨

🚀🌞 Fra solar‑jets til data‑science – vi snakket med Mats Ola Sand, fersk fra doktorgraden ved RoCS! Han forklarte hvordan små magnetiske rekobinasjonshendelser (Ellerman‑bomber) skyter ut spikula, og oppdaget en hittil ukjent sjokk‑rekobinasjons‑kobling i solens atmosfære.

🚀🌞 From solar jets to data‑science – We spoke with Mats Ola Sand, fresh off his PhD at RoCS! He untangled how tiny magnetic reconnection events (Ellerman bombs) launch spicules and discovered a never‑seen shock‑reconnection coupling in the Sun’s atmosphere.
💡 His best PhD tips? Exercise regularly, be patient with setbacks, and write code like your future self will need it.
