Welcome to a lecture by Go Hasegawa on Thursday, March 27th at 18:00 in A2 at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design. The event is a collaboration between OAF and 120 Hours.
Go Hasegawa is a Tokyo-based architect born in 1977. After completing his master's degree in engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2002, he worked for Taira Nishizawa Architects before founding his own office, Go Hasegawa and Associates, in 2005. He received his PhD from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2014.
Hasegawa's architecture is characterized by a fascination with standardized building materials and precise construction solutions, which, together with his manipulation of light and space, form the core of his work. He creates homes with a distinctive combination of simplicity and spatial richness, where the balance between open and closed spaces, weight, and lightness, plays a crucial role. He describes this as an architectural "amplitude" – a way of shaping the experience of space, from the subdued and subtle to the more sensual and expressive. Through material encounters, proportions, and the interplay of light, he develops spatial sequences that enhance our experience of both the ordinary and the extraordinary.
In addition to his practice, Hasegawa has academic credentials as a guest lecturer and professor at institutions such as the Academy of Architecture of Mendrisio, Harvard GSD, UCLA, AHO, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He has also published several books, including Go Hasegawa Works (2012), Go Hasegawa Conversations with European Architects*(2015), and Besides, History (2018).
The international lecture series for the spring of 2025 addresses the topic of "the good home" – how do we achieve architectural quality in today's housing construction? What does it mean to live well? Let's talk about living!
