📅 SAVE THE DATE | TONGA RUGBY EXCHANGE 🇹🇴🏉

On Friday 18 September, St Peter’s College will once again welcome rugby teams from Tonga for two games against our U15 and U16 teams.

🏉 Friday 18 September
📍 St Peter’s College
⏰ Afternoon games, likely 1:30pm and 3:00pm (times to be confirmed)

Following the games, our SPC Tongan community will host the visiting players and coaches for an after-match meal in the SPC Hall.

We would love our Tongan families to support by contributing to the meal where they can. Food can be delivered to the hall from 1:00pm on Friday 18 September.

A special day of rugby, culture, connection and hospitality. 🇹🇴❤️

A huge congratulations to Soane Funaki, our current Year 10 student, and his Pineula teammates who proudly represented New Zealand at the International Va’a Federation World Sprint Championships in Singapore this week! 🇳🇿🌊

Competing against more than 2,000 paddlers from 29 countries, Soane and his team achieved some outstanding results:

🥈 2nd in the world – 500m V6 Under 16 Men
🥈 2nd in the world – 500m V12 Under 16 Men
🥉 3rd in the world – 1000m V6 Under 16 Men

To top it off, they also broke a New Zealand national record with their time in the 1000m! 🔥

An incredible achievement on the world stage. Congratulations Soane, teammates, coaches and famili. What an awesome representation of Aotearoa New Zealand! 🇳🇿🇹🇴👏🏽🏅

🇹🇴 NZ Tonga Language Week at St. Peter's College Auckland 🇹🇴

On Sunday evening, our St Peter’s College community came together in the College Chapel for a special Tongan Mass to mark the beginning of Tonga Language Week 2026.

It was a beautiful way to begin the week, celebrating our faith, language, culture and community together.

A heartfelt mālō ‘aupito to all our students, families, staff, friends and members of our community who joined us for the evening and helped make the celebration so special.

Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture.

📸 A reminder that tomorrow on Friday 21 August we have our Special Interest Group photos in the Hall.

The Tongan Group photo for students is at 10:40am, and students need to be at the Hall by 10:30am.

Students will be in their usual school uniform, including ties and blazers. Students are also welcome to wear a tupenu if they wish, but this is not compulsory.

We look forward to seeing our Tongan boys represented together. 🇹🇴

This week we celebrate Tongan Language Week, which began yesterday with Mass and continued this morning with the raising of the Tongan flag. 🇹🇴

This year’s theme is:

“Ko ‘etau hiva, ko e fe’unu mahu’inga ia ki he mo’ui ’a e Tonga”
Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture.

A wonderful way to begin the week, celebrating our language, culture, faith and the importance of music in our Tongan identity.

St Peter’s College is looking forward to celebrating Tonga Language Week from 16–22 August 2026, with this year’s theme:

Please save these important dates as we begin our celebrations:

⛪ Sunday 16 August | 5:00pm – Tongan Mass
St Peter’s College Chapel
Our Tongan Mass, celebrating the Feast of the Assumption, will mark the beginning of Tonga Language Week at the College. All parents, families and friends are warmly welcome.

Students are asked to wear school uniform and are warmly encouraged to wear their SPC tupenu and lokeha/ta‘ovala.

A cup of tea will follow in the library — please bring a plate to share.

🇹🇴 Monday 17 August | 7:50am – Tongan Flag Raising Ceremony
Students participating are asked to be at school by 7:50am.

As part of the College special interest group photos, the Tongan Group photo will be taken at 10:40am in the Hall. Students need to be at the Hall by 10:30am.

On behalf of the St Peter's College Tongan Community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Kelepi Tapa'atu and the Havea & Tapa'atu famili on the passing of his beloved mother, ‘Ilaisaane ‘Anita Soanina Havea Tapa'atu.

Kelepi has been a valued leader within our St Peter's College Tongan group, and during this difficult time we stand alongside him and his famili in prayer, love, and support.

Members of our St Peter's Tongan Community will be attending the Family Service this Saturday evening to pay our respects and support Kelepi and his famili.

From Polyfest, to the School Fair, and everything in between, it has been a busy term for our community. Most of all, it’s been great to see our young men step up, represent, and carry themselves well across all spaces.
