Big thanks to the amazing AUSA (Auckland Uni Students’ Association) volunteers who joined us on campus yesterday and brought the fun with a range of activities.

We were also thrilled to welcome Nimish Milan Singh (AUSA President) and Gauri Jeejesh (International Students Officer), who spent time connecting with our students.

Looking forward to more exciting collaborations with AUSA ahead!

Chris, a favourite teacher for many ELA students, runs a Listening Workshop that gives students the opportunity to practise listening to content similar to real university lectures—helping them understand the main ideas, follow discussions more effectively, and build confidence in academic English.

“Listening skills are essential for university students. ELA runs a weekly Listening Workshop where students can practise lecture-style listening and develop other key academic skills.” said Chris.

Through guided activities and interactive practice, students strengthen their listening comprehension, note-taking skills, vocabulary recognition, and critical thinking in a supportive learning environment.

ELA offers a range of weekly workshops designed to help students develop practical English skills, gain confidence, and make the most of their learning experience both inside and outside the classroom.

ELA’s Academic Manager, Lee Waddingham, continued his Latin American tour in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

He represented ELA at a full day of events and seminars, connecting with prospective students.

A little trivia ... “Belo Horizonte” means “Beautiful Horizon”—a nod to the stunning mountain views surrounding the city.

Next stop… São Paulo

Today, ELA’s very own Eileen ran a fantastic crochet workshop for our students. "Crochet has been a passion of mine since I was 10 years old. It was a lot of fun to share a few tips with the students today. They seemed to really enjoy learning the basics, making chains into a bracelet, and crocheting flowers. Our students are super talented, they picked it up really quickly!" said Eileen.

Our Academic Manager, Lee Waddingham, was in Chile as part of Education New Zealand (ENZ)'s Latin America roadshow, connecting with local agents and meeting educational institutions.

It’s been a great opportunity to share how ELA supports Chilean students on their pathway to postgraduate study at the University of Auckland—and to spend time with NZ Ambassador to Chile, Daniela Rigoli, who joined the event.

A big thank you to ENZ for bringing this together—we’re excited to keep building these connections. Next up: Brazil!

A warm welcome to our City University of Hong Kong students, who started their first day at ELA today!

Since 2008, ELA has proudly welcomed CityUHK students to Auckland — building a strong and lasting partnership over the years.

As part of the CALIS programme, students will take part in English classes, activities, and cultural experiences, as well as volunteer placements across Auckland—gaining real-world experience while connecting with the local community.

We’re excited to see them build confidence, make new friends, and enjoy their journey at ELA. Wishing everyone an amazing and rewarding time with us!
