Te Pūtāiki is the Māori Law Students’s Society here on campus at the University of Canterbury. It is run entirel
y by students for students, and our main objectives are to foster, promote and nurture the whakawhanaungatanga of our students, to provide support, guidance and pastoral care, and to facilitate academic excellence. We operate according to tikanga Māori, which creates a really welcoming whānau atmosphere. Te Pūtāiki means interwoven kete which is a metaphor describing the kaupapa of our society. It is a fitting analogy for like the kete if the strands stray too far from each other the taonga may fall through. More than a few of us would not still be here if it had not been for the whanaungatanga within Te Pūtāiki . Becoming a member of Te Pūtāiki provides many unique opportunities throughout the academic year as well as belonging to a supportive whānau through your degree. We have several networking opportunities throughout the year, Māori Mooting Competition, Māori Law Seminar Series, Workshops and Study Wānanga and some great social events too. Te Pūtāiki works closely with Te Akatoki and the Māori Development Team to provide a supportive environment that enhances the academic, social and cultural well-being of Māori law students at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha. So feel free to drop in and join us in Room 106 of Meremere, following our Instagram or by emailing us at [email protected]
We look forward to meeting you. Ngā mihi nui,
Te Pūtāiki Executive
