Two Lincoln University alumni have taken out New Zealand’s leading young wine industry titles for 2026.

Congratulations to Nick Lamain, named Young Winemaker of the Year, and Kris Godsall, crowned Young Viticulturist of the Year.

Current Lincoln student Joshua Irving also impressed, placing third in the national finals.

Nick is now a winemaker at Isabel Estate Vineyard, while Kris is assistant vineyard manager at Cloudy Bay Vineyards - both in Marlborough.

A standout result for our alumni, and for the next generation of New Zealand wine industry leaders. 🍇

We acknowledge the tragic loss of life and devastation caused by the recent flash floods in the Nepal-Tibet border region. Nepal holds a special place in the Lincoln University community through a relationship that spans more seventy years of continuous educational, research and alumni connections. Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal and all those affected by this tragedy, and we extend our sincere sympathies to the families, communities and individuals impacted by this devastating event.

Lincoln University’s Emeritus Prof. David Simmons CNZM is Deputy Chair of Himalayan Trust. Alexander Hillary (Sir Edmund Hillary’s grandson) is General Manager of the Himalayan Trust NZ Team. Reconnecting after all these years

Members of the DipFM 1980 class came together in Wellington over the weekend to reconnect, share memories and begin planning for a reunion in two years, ahead of their 50-year milestone in 2030.

The weekend was a reminder of the importance of staying connected, and that the friendships formed at Lincoln and the connection to the University - remain strong over the years.

We were delighted to help reconnect the group after so many years and look forward to supporting their future reunions.

Congratulations to Lincoln University alumna Melanie Mark-Shadbolt on being elected a Companion of the Royal Society Te Apārangi.

Melanie has been recognised for her nationally significant leadership across mātauranga Māori, environmental science and science policy.

Ngā mihi nui, Mel, on this well-deserved honour.

The Council of the Society has elected 13 new Companions – Ngā Takahoa a Te Apārangi – for decades-long contributions to science, technology, or the humanities.

Congratulations to Lincoln University alumna Kate Macdonald on receiving the Creative at Heart Award at the 2026 NZI Rural Women Business Awards, held at Parliament’s Banquet Hall on Thursday night.

Through her company, Davaar, Kate is helping bring New Zealand wool to a wider audience by creating premium products that connect the farm, the fibre and the story behind it.

It is great to see Kate’s work recognised, alongside the important contribution women continue to make across New Zealand’s rural sector.
