🏆 WINTER SPORTS TOURNAMENT WEEK 🏆

What a week for our Waimea College athletes!

Our teams have travelled across the South Island, competed against some of the best school teams around, and represented Waimea with pride, determination and plenty of heart.

Senior A Netball – Nelson
B Grade Champions! 🏆 The girls went undefeated throughout the tournament, also taking home the Rata B Grade Trophy for the biggest goal differential. They have earned promotion to A Grade next year! Congratulations to Casey Powick, Hailey Mueller and Kady Thurlow, named Talented Players in B Grade, and Harriet Sladen, invited to the Mainland Development Camp.

1st XI Mixed Hockey – Tier 4
Tier 4 Champions! 🏆 A new experience for many of the players, the team embraced mixed hockey and finished their tournament with a fantastic win over Mackenzie College in the final.

Junior A Basketball – Christchurch
A great week of basketball, finishing 11th and gaining valuable experience against some strong opposition.

Senior A Boys Basketball – Christchurch
A tough pool saw the team go to overtime in one game and lose another by just two points. Finishing 15th out of 24, they competed strongly against some of the South Island’s best teams.

Cycling – Southern Cycling Tour
Our riders took on some challenging racing and represented Waimea strongly across the South Island.

Equestrian
A fantastic week of competition, with our riders proudly representing Waimea.

Football – NCG Composite
A great week of football, with the team competing hard and gaining valuable tournament experience.

U15 Rugby
Plenty of commitment and effort from the team as they took on strong opposition throughout the week.

A massive THANK YOU to all of our incredible coaches and managers.

Tournament Week simply wouldn't happen without the time, energy and commitment you give to our students. From training and preparation to travelling, organising, supporting and everything in between, we appreciate you!

And a huge thank you to Pub Charity Limited for their support of our Winter Sports teams and helping make it possible for our students to travel and compete at tournament.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who pulled on the Waimea colours this week.

🏆 TIER 4 CHAMPIONS! 🏆

What a fantastic tournament for our 1st XI Mixed Hockey team, who have finished their week as Tier 4 Champions!

Playing in a mixed team was a new concept for many of the players, but they embraced the challenge and produced some great hockey throughout the tournament.

Their week culminated in a final against Mackenzie College, where the team put it all together to secure a fantastic win and finish 1st in Tier 4!

A brilliant achievement from a team who embraced something new, worked hard together and represented Waimea College with pride.

Congratulations, 1st XI Mixed Hockey!

🏆 B GRADE SOUTH ISLAND NETBALL CHAMPIONS! 🏆

What an incredible week for our Senior A Netball team, who have finished their tournament as B Grade Champions!

The girls went undefeated throughout the tournament, battling through three days of wild and windy conditions before producing some beautiful netball when it mattered most.

In their final game against Lincoln High School, they stood strong, showed plenty of composure and delivered a fantastic performance to claim the B Grade title, earning promotion to A Grade for next year!

And they didn't stop there! The team also took home the Rata B Grade Trophy for the biggest goal differential across the tournament, a fantastic reflection of the team's consistency, hard work and commitment throughout the week.

A huge congratulations to Casey Powick, Hailey Mueller and Kady Thurlow, who were recognised as Talented Players in B Grade.

And congratulations to Harriet Sladen, who has been invited to attend the Mainland Development Camp in Christchurch, an awesome recognition of her talent and potential.

What a way to finish the season! We are incredibly proud of this team and all they have achieved.

Congratulations to the following students (and staff) who competed in the Judo South Island Championships in Christchurch over the weekend:
Tyler Holmes, Will Fisher, Xavier Burne and Mr Wheeler.

Tyler walked away with a Gold in the Under 60kg Cadet men, he also competed in the Junior Men under 60kg and received Silver.
Xavier Burne received Silver in the Open Mens Cadet.
Will Fisher received Silver in the Under 60kg Cadet Men.

Hamish Wheeler received a Gold and Silver in the Male Veteran and enough points to earn his Black Belt (First Dan).

Well done all.

In Christchurch, the junior boys basketball team are playing for 9th-12th after a win against Marlborough Boys yesterday.

SISS Netball - with the winds blowing up a storm, the conditions on the outside courts were a bit sketchy, but with the sun shining, the team pulled out two comfortable wins and worked well as a team.

Kate Trolove Mixed Hockey Tournament - The hockey team had a loss in the morning against Garin, but finished the day strongly with a win over Buller High/Westland/South Westland

Jim Wishart Football tournament - The boys were up 1-0 at halftime but had a narrow 2-1 loss to Middleton Grange.

NZ Secondary Schools Winter Tournament Week is here! We’re excited to see a huge number of Waimea College students representing the school across the South Island this week.

Our teams and athletes will be competing in Junior Boys Basketball, Cycling, Equestrian, U15 Rugby, Boys Football, Senior A Netball, Mixed Hockey, Senior Boys Basketball, Girls 10s Rugby and Target Shooting, with teams heading to Christchurch, Westport, Blenheim and competing here in Nelson.

We wish all our athletes, coaches, managers and supporters the very best for the week. Play hard, represent Waimea proudly and enjoy the experience!
