The DEFAS Society of Engineers, Inc. (DEFASSEI) proudly celebrates our accomplished sisters, 𝐒𝐢𝐬. 𝐉𝐨𝐚𝐧 𝐄. 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐭 and 𝐒𝐢𝐬. 𝐑𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐚 𝐃. 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞, for representing the Philippines and showcasing their research at the 𝗡𝗜𝗘 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 2026 in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, under the theme “𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗮, 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜.”

🔹 𝗦𝗶𝘀. 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗻 𝗘. 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗵𝗮𝗰𝗼𝘁 presented her research, “𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀: 𝗔 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜,” as part of 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 1𝗗: 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. Her work explores the competencies needed for effective human–AI collaboration in meteorological observation and proposes a four-domain curriculum framework that emphasizes professional judgment, situational awareness, and human expertise alongside emerging technologies.

🔹 𝗦𝗶𝘀. 𝗥𝗶𝘇𝘇𝗮 𝗗. 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 presented “𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮” in the 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 segment. Her research examines operational performance in flood forecasting and warning, including monitoring and forecasting capability, warning dissemination, technological infrastructure, human resource competency, inter-agency coordination, and community responsiveness.

Their participation demonstrates the valuable contributions of DEFAS professionals to research, innovation, disaster resilience, and the responsible integration of technology in professional practice.
