Engr. Benitado of PICE NOC Inspires Future Civil Engineers at UNO-R โPUHONโ General Assembly
BACOLOD CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL โ August 27, 2026. โ The University of Negros OccidentalโRecoletos (UNO-R) College of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering held its Civil Engineering General Assembly on August 27, 2026, at the University Gymnasium, with the theme โPUHONโ Inspired by Hope, Driven by Purpose.
The assembly gathered civil engineering students and members of the academic community for an inspiring occasion focused on professional growth, perseverance, leadership, and purpose.
A highlight of the event was the inspirational message of Engr. Sharon S. Benitado, President of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers โ Negros Occidental Chapter (PICE NOC), who served as Guest Speaker and represented PICE NOC.
Engr. Benitado encouraged the students to embrace the challenges of their engineering journey, emphasizing that success is achieved through continuous effort and perseverance.
โSuccess in engineering is not an elevator. Itโs a staircase!โ
Representing PICE NOC, she also emphasized that the challenges of civil engineering extend beyond mathematics and technical calculations.
โThe hardest part of Civil Engineering is not always the mathematics. Sometimes itโs people.โ She explained that professional engineers work with contractors, clients, supervisors, stakeholders, politicians, and the publicโpeople who do not always follow formulas. Thus, communication, collaboration, leadership, and relationship-building are equally important skills.
โTechnical skills will get you hired. But people skills will help you grow.โ Her message reflected the spirit of PUHON, reminding students that becoming a successful civil engineer requires not only technical knowledge but also perseverance, purpose, and the ability to work effectively with people.
Through the message of Engr. Benitado, representing PICE NOC, the future civil engineers of UNO-R were reminded that the road to success is a staircaseโone step at a time, built through knowledge, experience, determination, and purpose.
