Falcons soared to new heights as two student-led teams from the College of Information Technology (CIT) represented the institution at the Philippine Startup Challenge (PSC) Negros Island Region (NIR), held at Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Bringing their innovative startup concepts to the regional stage, the Junior and Senior Falcons joined fellow student innovators from across the region in presenting technology-driven solutions with the guidance of faculty mentors. Organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology - Negros Island Region (DICT-NIR) through the Information Communications Technology Industry Development Bureau (IIDB), the competition provided a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas and explore the possibilities of innovation.

Leading the college's delegation, Team Arxion, composed of Mark Neil Oligo (CS2028), Jeptha Martir Osorio (CS2028), and Eduardo Mellizar (IT2028), secured second place with their startup concept, ResiboPH.

Meanwhile, Team Falcons, represented by CS2027 Seniors Rujz Jeamar Bernaldez, John Andrei Costoya, and Emil Claude Villegas, also earned a place among the Top 10 qualifiers across the NIR with their startup concept, NearBuy.

The team received guidance from IS Program Head Dr. Reymund L. Sabay and Mr. Maxil S. Urocay, who supported their preparation and development throughout the process.

With ResiboPH's second-place finish and NearBuy's Top 10 qualification, the CIT Falcons continue to demonstrate the power of student-driven innovation, bringing their ideas beyond the classroom and into the regional startup community.

Team $ilverCITadel$ composed of Alexandra Shierlmole Ballesteros, IT2027, John Gemar Entapa, IT2027, Christian Pascual, IT2028, and Leone Kidlat Sevillo, IT2028, seized various cryptographic challenges during the DICT-NIR Hack4Gov5 Capture-the-Flag (CTF) Competition and ranked 9th overall.

Prior to the competition, coaches Mr. Joshua Dela Cruz and Mr. Kyrond Edyzon Sol trained the participants of expected competition concepts, which consisted of pen-testing challenges in varying difficulties. Participants are then able to solve security puzzles, decrypt messages, exploit vulnerabilities, and crack encrypted passwords to find hidden strings called "flags."

During the seven-hour capture, $ilverCITadel$ garnered a total of 260 points across different categories, including open source intelligence, forensics, networking, and steganography. Topping the ranks, and ultimately hailed as the Regional Champion, was Team Gryphon from University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, followed by Team CodeShield from STI West Negros University, then Team Phish & Chips from Silliman University as second runner up.

What happens when you stop running the same script?

….

Inspired by method overriding, Override reimagines what has already been written, giving old patterns new meaning and familiar stories a different direction. Each piece is a small act of rewriting, choosing what to change, what to keep, and where to go next.

The IT Chronicles officially releases its second installment of the exclusive literary e-folio open to all CIT students, named the Byte-Sized Chronicles: Override.

Join the stream of new-found bits and submit your literary write-ups of any form or art pieces using the following link: https://forms.gle/1owmJghaAkzH2R7u6
