Sa bawat pagtaas ng presyo ng langis, kasabay nitong tumataas ang pamasahe, bilihin, at ang bigat ng pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay. Sa gitna ng mga pandaigdigang krisis—gera, inflation, at patuloy na pag-igting ng ekonomiyang nakasandig sa kita kaysa sa tao—ang manggagawang Pilipino ang unang tinatamaan at huling inaasikaso. Habang ang ilan ay kumikita sa paggalaw ng merkado, milyon-milyon naman ang napipilitang magtipid, magbawas, at magtiis.

𝙃𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞 𝙝𝙞𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙣 𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙬𝙖 𝙨𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙠 𝙣𝙖 𝙠𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙣 𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙤. Ang pagtaas ng presyo ng langis ay hindi lang usapin ng supply at demand—ito ay salamin ng sistemang inuuna ang tubo kaysa sa dignidad ng tao. Sa ganitong kalakaran, ang sahod ay nananatiling mababa, ang seguridad sa trabaho ay hindi tiyak, at ang karapatan ng manggagawa ay patuloy na isinasantabi.

Ngayong Mayo Uno, kinikilala natin ang lakas at halaga ng manggagawa—hindi bilang simpleng bahagi ng ekonomiya, kundi bilang puso nito. Sa kabila ng krisis, nananatiling buhay ang panawagan para sa makatarungang sahod, abot-kayang presyo ng mga batayang pangangailangan, at isang sistemang inuuna ang kapakanan ng nakararami.

𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗗. 𝗗𝗘𝗫𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗕𝗔𝗭𝗢𝗢!

Ngayong ika-28 ng Abril 2026, tatlong taon ang nakalipas mula nang sapilitang dinukot ng estado sina Brod. Dexter Capuyan at Bazoo de Jesus na huling namataan sa Taytay, Rizal noong Abril 2023. Sa kabila ng matinding panawagan ng mga pamilya at kapwa aktibista para sa agarang paglitaw nina Dexter at Bazoo, nananatiling bingi at bulag ang estado sa hinaing ng masa.

Tatlong taon na ang nakalilipas ngunit sariwa pa rin sa alaala ng lahat kung paano nilabag ng estado ang karapatang pantao ng mga aktibistang sina Brod. Dexter at Bazoo na walang pakundangang dinukot habang walang isinagawang matinong imbestigasyon. Saksi ang publiko kung paano nire-red-tag at pilit na inuugnay sa mga maling paratang ang mga indibidwal na nagsusulong ng karapatang pantao ng masa. Ang sapilitang pagkawala nila ay bahagi ng mekanismo ng estado upang patahimikin ang sinumang tumutuligsa sa kanilang kriminal na pamumuno at takutin ang mga aktibista, lider-katutubo, environmental defender, at tagapanggol ng masa na magpatuloy pa sa pagpuna sa estado.

Kamakailan, muling ipinamalas ng mga berdugong AFP ang kanilang pagiging pasistang tuta ng makakapangyarihan at ng estado nang kanilang kitilin ang buhay ng labing siyam na indibidwal sa Toboso, Negros noong ika-19 ng Abril 2026. Bagaman ilan sa mga nasawi ay mga sibilyan, sila ay walang pakundangang pinaslang at walang habas na nire-red-tag online. Ang tahasang pagpaslang sa mga walang kalaban-labang mga sibilyan ay malinaw na salamin ng tiwaling pamamahala, sistemikong karahasan, at kultura ng impyunidad.

Mahigpit na kinokondena ng Sigma Kappa Pi Fraternity Metro Baguio at ng Sigma Delta Pi Sorority UP Baguio ang maling pag-uugnay sa pagtatanggol ng karapatang pantao bilang "kriminal na gawain" at "kaaway ng estado." Tinutuligsa ng kapatiran ang pangre-red-tag, sapilitang pagkawala, at ang pasistang rehimen na siyang puno’t dulo ng mga problemang kinahaharap ng masa, kanayunan, at ng mga katutubo.

Hindi papayag ang EKIT-EDIT Baguio na maging isang alaala na lamang ito sa kasaysayan. Hindi kami titigil sa pag-alala na ang pagkawala nina Brod. Dexter at Bazoo ay manipestasyon ng isang estadong takot sa mga aktibista, lider-estudyante, lider-katutubo, environmental defender, at mga tagapanggol ng masa, isang estadong ayaw ipakitang bigo itong gampanan ang tungkuling paglingkuran ang mamamayan. Sa halip, pinaglilingkuran nito ang interes ng mga naghaharing uri, at pansariling interes.

Gayunpaman, sa gitna ng matinding krisis sa karapatang pantao at patuloy na paglaban dito, at bilang pag-alala kina Brod. Dexter at Bazoo, hindi matitigil ang militanteng pagtindig ng kapatiran bilang kakampi ng masang api.

Sigma Delta Pi Sorority’s 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏’𝒔 𝑺𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆, 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑳𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 highlighted the realities of deepfakes and AI-powered abuse.

In a time where technology evolves faster than accountability, the forum in partnership with UPB Kasarian Gender Studies, opened a critical conversation on deepfakes and AI-powered online abuse.

With an eye-opening talk from 𝐒𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨, and with the presence of UP Baguio Chancellor Prof. Joel M. Addawe, and Prof. Cecilia Fe Sta. Maria Abalos, PhD, the forum emphasized that AI-driven abuse is not distant—it is real, immediate, and demands collective responsibility.

This forum seeks to center women’s experiences, raise awareness, and foster conversations on protection, accountability, and digital safety.

The forum will feature 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨, a UP Baguio EDIT alumna, who will share her experience as a victim-survivor of deepfake and AI-powered abuse, offering personal insight into the realities of AI-enabled violence.

𝐏𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐍 💜♀️

The Sigma Delta Pi Sorority UP Baguio, in partnership with the UPB Kasarian Gender Studies Program, successfully concluded the third installment of our annual women's month educational discussion series titled Women's Space, Place, and Location.

With the name "Pagkabigbigan 2026: Student Research Colloquium on Women and Gender Studies," the event featured 10 presentations that revolved around themes related to women, children, and LGBTQ+ community, as part of our women's month celebration this March.

Student presenters were invited to share their studies and papers from across various fields including history, political science, communication, biology, and economics, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of gender studies and deepening the conversation about our social realities. Several presenters are current beneficiaries of Sigma Delta Pi Sorority UP Baguio Undergraduate Thesis Grant, a research aide for research that focuses on topics aligned with the sorority's advocacies related to gender studies.

Professor Cecilia Fe Sta. Maria Abalos, Assistant Professor Micah Dispo, MSPH, and DHPh Instructor Mary Claire Malasaga joined the event as discussants that provided meaningful insights and comments to the presentations.
At the end of the event, the paper entitled "The (In)visible Contract of the Flesh: Persistence of Gilman’s Sexuo-Economic Relations" by Ma. Jean Nicole Omandam and Denmar Djasthine Garcia won the Best Presentation Award.

The Sigma Delta Pi Sorority UP Baguio believes that through events like this, we are able to amplify the unheard voices from below, particularly from women, children, and the LGBTQIA+ community, that are often overlooked in academia. An avenue for uncomfortable discussions, a space for the lived realities of the unseen and the oppressed, a place for the stories rarely talked about, and a location where they can reclaim their identities and voices.

As we move forward, we carry with us not just the knowledge shared today, but the responsibility to continue these conversations beyond the event—to challenge, to question, and to advocate.

Also, in line with our commitment to care beyond discourse, we also distributed kits that include basic feminine hygiene needs like tampons, tissues, and alcohol, as part of our Women’s Month initiative—an effort to extend solidarity into tangible support and community care.

Lastly, we offer our heartfelt gratitude to the EDIT UP Baguio Alumnae Association and UPB Kasarian Gender Studies Program that helped and supported us make this event a success. Happy women's month from the sisses of EDIT UPB! We look forward to building even more inclusive and critical spaces with you in the years to come. 🖤

This event is the third installment of Sigma Delta Pi Sorority UP Baguio's women's month educational discussion series entitled Women's Space, Place, and Location. This March 2026, the event highlights selected presentations and research on women and gender studies.

Discover new perspectives that are grounded in work and lived realities of women, as student researchers from various areas of interest will be sharing their own studies and insights.

More than an academic space, this colloquium will also serve as a platform to recognize the importance of scholarship opportunities for women and gender-centered research to further challenge inequalities, amplify diverse voices, and ultimately, contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.

Together, let's listen, learn, and engage in discussions that honor the narratives that have shaped, and continue to shape society.
