As members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) BatStateUSC, we have learned that the path toward becoming engineers is not always easy. There are demanding lessons, challenging problems, sleepless nights, and moments when we question whether we are capable of reaching our goals.

But just like the pressures found deep beneath the Earth, the challenges we face can shape us into something stronger.

𝗧𝗶𝗯𝗮𝘆. Strength. Fortitude. The ability to endure.

Long before the Filipino story was written in the alphabet we know today, our people had their own way of putting words into writing. 𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧 was used to carry messages, poetry, and pieces of everyday life, which left behind traces of a culture that existed long before colonial rule.

And perhaps that, too, tells us something about 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

The stories of our heroes were stories of people who endured, resisted, and chose to rise despite the weight of their time. Their courage became part of the nation's memory, carried from one generation to the next.

For many, it is simply a holiday on the calendar. But 21ˢᵗ of August marks the death of former 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼 “𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲” 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗝𝗿., whose assassination became a defining moment in Philippine history. The date was later declared 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘆 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘆, a special 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 through 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗡𝗼. 𝟵𝟮𝟱𝟲 on 𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟰, as commemoration for his indomitable courage in pursuit of a better Philippines.
