The opening ceremony brought together local officials, education leaders, LCUAA officials, coaches, and student-athletes in a celebration of athletic excellence and institutional pride.

Binalonan Municipal Mayor Hon. Ramon Ronald V. Guico IV delivered the welcome address, followed by a message of support from Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CESO III, regional director of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region I, represented by Dr. Virgo C. Lopez, education supervisor II of CHED Region I. Dr. Evelyn Abalos-Tomboc, UEP president, introduced the keynote speaker, Hon. Ramon V. Guico III, governor of the province of Pangasinan, whose keynote address was delivered by Hon. Manuel O. Luis, Jr., provincial administrator.

A highlight of the ceremony was the entrance of the LCUAA flag, carried by Mr. Justin Jerzel C. Soliven, gold medalist at the national event of the 5th Leg Pro-Active Arnis tournament.

The ceremonial torch handover began with Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, CESE, LCUAA executive director, passing the torch to Hon. Ramon Ronald V. Luis, Jr., provincial administrator, representing shared leadership, provincial and municipal solidarity, and Pangasinanโ€™s support for the successful staging of the national games.

The ceremony also recognized three Pangasinan prides whose achievements embody excellence and perseverance in sports. Mr. Danny Ildefonso, a two-time Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Most Valuable Player, built a distinguished 17-year professional basketball career, winning eight PBA championships and earning a place among the leagueโ€™s 40 Greatest Players. Mr. RJ Tamase Brucal, a two-time gold medalist in para-athletics, won gold in the Menโ€™s Under-17 Long Jump T20 event at the 2025 Asian Youth Para Games and secured two gold medals in the long jump and 400-meter run at the Palarong Pambansa 2025. Mr. URL Gerard Daquioag, a decorated badminton athlete, has earned multiple titles in singles and doubles competitions, including championships at the UEP university meet and other local tournaments.

The ceremony also featured the entrance and hoisting of delegatesโ€™ flags, the oath of sportsmanship, and the formal declaration of the gamesโ€™ opening by Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, LCUAA Executive Director.

Guided by the theme โ€œGaling ang Baon, Husay ang Layon,โ€ UEP proudly welcomes the participating institutions as the Ang Galing spirit takes center stage in Binalonan.

The University of Eastern Pangasinan (UEP) strengthened its internationalization through its 2nd IGNITE (Integrating Globally Nurtured Innovation through Trained Educators) Writeshop. The UEPโ€™s Internationalization (IZN) Office spearheaded this two-day event on October 8 to 9, 2026, at the UEPโ€™s Hospitality Management Function Hall.

The IGNITE writeshop brought together the UEP key executives, deans, program heads, and coordinators, and IZN focal persons participated in the writeshop. Dr. Evelyn Abalos-Tomboc, university president, expressed her support in creating a more established internationalization to increase opportunities for linkages and mobility.

Also present to support and collaborate were Dr. Raymond N. Claro, vice-president for academic affairs and internationalization, and Dr. Aldrin R. Tarangco, vice-president for administration and finance. Dr. Gloria C. Nemedez, vice-president for research, innovation, training, and extension, shared her insights during the event.
Ms. Jennifer Montero, UEPโ€™s IZN consultant, served as the resource speaker. Ms. Montero is also the founder of AAUCo and the Nova Scotia Community Collegeโ€™s representative for strategic partnerships, recruitment, and academic cooperation.

During the two-day writeshop, the university executives had a virtual meeting with three international universities through the assistance of Ms. Montero. These universities included Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and Tra Vinh University. UEP identified its program alignment with the universities and explored the possibility of building partnerships with them.

In addition to establishing more linkages, the writeshop included various activities and discussions focused on strengthening and improving the UEPโ€™s IZN initiatives. The IZN focal persons and program heads and coordinators were able to present their proposed IZN activities and timeline that may enhance the internationalization of their respective colleges. From their presentations, Ms. Montero provided her feedback and suggestions to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the proposed activities.

Additionally, the writeshop also tested the skills of the IZN focal persons and program heads and coordinators in creating viable actions for different situations involved in IZN. Some of the situations are about receiving invitations as a speaker or participant for international conferences, obtaining collaboration opportunities, and addressing concerns about international accreditation status. From the activities conducted, the university outlined its Strategic Internationalization Plan and Manual of Operations.

The initiatives of the UEP executives, together with the different colleges, demonstrate that internationalization is a collaborative effort. UEP will increase its global visibility and linkages through the shared efforts of the whole academic community.
