In measuring progress we need to focus not just on the amazing structures, clever systems and technologies that we design and create but also on who we enable to design, create and imagine in order to build.

Engineering is an incredible field where human imagination can be brought to life, where complex problems can be solved with creativity and precision. At the heart of engineering are some of the most talented individuals of our time. Women in engineering are meeting the challenge of engineering and making a difference not only by holding roles that were previously seen as off-limits to women, but by bringing intelligence, leadership and a deep commitment to innovation to the profession. Their contributions go beyond mere representation, as their unique perspectives drive meaningful progress and inspire a wide array of solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems.

On International Women in Engineering Day, we honor the determination of women bring to redefining what is possible. Whether in classrooms, laboratories, workplaces or communities around the world, women in engineering are working to advance science, technology and society. Their achievements remind us that the best engineering is fostered by a culture that encourages and supports the full range of talent to reach its potential in an environment of opportunity.

The future of the profession will not be the sum of groundbreaking discoveries and the most impressive inventions; it will depend on us to create an environment in which capable minds can grow and flourish.
