🦇🦇 Bat Week Celebration! 🦇🦇

The last week of October is all "𝐚-𝐛𝐚𝐭" our amazing forest workers play an important role in the Philippine biodiversity! 🌿

Acerodon is the spirit animal of CAS in the upcoming Pasigarbo 2025! Interestingly, the Acerodon jubatus, or Golden-crowned Flying Fox, is a species endemic to the Philippines and is currently classified as endangered. 🦇

We may not see them often, but their presence acts as a key indicator of a healthy and balanced ecosystem, acting as natural pest controllers, seed dispersers, and pollinators. (𝐁𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞!)

The next time you go out, try looking up at the night sky. Bats don't just hang around for Halloween, but are present all year round! So let's help protect them by preserving their habitat.

“𝙄𝙨𝙠𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙥” 𝙁𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙖 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙃𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝘼𝙎𝙎𝘾𝘼𝙏!
The Department of Biology facilitated the donation of the book “Iskolisap: Insects of UP Diliman” to the ASSCAT Learning Center, further enriching the institution’s collection of resources for teaching and research in biodiversity and ecology. The book arrived on October 17, 2025, marking another step toward enhancing environmental learning and appreciation.
The department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the authors, Dr. Christine Jewel C. Uy-Yabot and Ms. Hazel Anne C. Endico of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, for their generous contribution in supporting environmental education and scientific inquiry.
The donated book will serve as a valuable reference for instruction and research, inspiring students to become more observant and appreciative of the biodiversity that thrives within their own communities.
This initiative underscores the Department of Biology’s unwavering commitment to advancing environmental education, fostering scientific curiosity, and promoting biodiversity conservation among the students and researchers of ASSCAT.
