When I was the GT in my college days, the aftermath of the hazing was always the most scariest part of the old procedure. I knew the feeling since I went through the same process having not to walk for few days and being unable to do my daily routine for few weeks.
The hardest part about the aftermath of initiation rites was not during the process itself, but having to be constantly communicated to the newborns after the process. This means constant phone calls to check them and monitor their well being. In my case, we stayed in the same room together for about 24 hours before heading back to our respected families.
Hazing was always part of the critical procedure in the past, where we once have ungergone too. We are just lucky to say the in our time we had the proper guidance, medical awareness, and wisdom to see the well being of the neophyte after each whip. Hazing was hard, it made us think if what we went through was still humanitarian. In the case of being at the midst of life and death. It made us realize the impact of joining this kind of organization while sacrificing our mental, physical, and emotional being. It questioned my thoughts wether this was right or wrong.
Not for the drama caused by the death but lets compare the types of fratmen nowadays. I'm not generalizing the fact, but i can only attest to my self and my experience in my eighteen years as a fratman and to those I have met that were initiated with the old process or not.
Fratmen who have experienced the old process who were once boastful, proud and self defined were humbled down and were changed through the process. They were bent down to their knees and made them realize the deep meaning of triskelionism, thus making them more eager to learn about the fraternity. This is why most of them are well oriented and are living the tenets and codes of conduct by heart. While some of those who did not experienced it were the opposite. They are loud, self-proclaimed "know it all", and were always active in socmed issues. Some think they are better than the other because of what they learned during the new process filled with orientations and learnings. They look above the others making them self-proud and establish themselves as better than the other.
At the end of the day being a true triskelion starts on yourself. If you have gone the traditional hazing or not, i depends on your approach on how to educate yourself as a fratman. How we learn from our mistakes and make our judgement on the rights or wrongs. Wether you choose to be properly oriented or not, or you choose to live our lives centered to our tenets and codes of conduct. Being a triskelion really starts on ourselves and not on what we have gone through in order to part of this supreme fraternity.
For we are just bearing one same name, one same banner, and alwas remember that even if we have different political choices, different fraternal approaches and have different visions, wether NEC or GLOBAL, we still carry the same core values as a triskelion.
