BUTUAN CITY— Seeking to bridge the gap between academic inquiry and real-world mental health solutions, the Saint Joseph Institute of Technology (SJIT) College of Arts and Sciences held its highly anticipated Research Congress on April 29, 2026. The event, hosted both at the SJIT Multi-Media Center and virtually via Zoom, brought together academic leaders, international experts, and student researchers.

The congress was officially opened by Dr. Mariane L. Nala, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, followed by a powerful inspirational message from SJIT CEO and President, Dr. Leticia C. Salas.

The highlight of the afternoon was a plenary session featuring 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐮 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐮, 𝐚 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚. Dr. Dinu presented a timely study titled:

“𝑳𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑫𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏: 𝑨𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑴𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔.”

The presentation explored how modern data science and linguistics can be used to identify early warning signs of mental health struggles within the digital footprints left on social media platforms—a topic that resonated deeply with the hybrid audience of local and online attendees.

The second half of the congress shifted the focus to the next generation of scholars. A diverse "List of Study" was presented by SJIT students, covering a broad spectrum of social and psychological issues relevant to the Caraga region and beyond.

The event concluded with an awarding of certificates to recognize the contributions of the speakers and presenters. Mr. Daryl S. Prado, the CAS Research Coordinator, delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of research in driving community development and evidence-based solutions.

The program, hosted by Mr. Mark John Benolirao, served as a testament to SJIT's commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and social responsibility in the year 2026.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Days 2026 officially kicked off on the morning of March 25 at the Dotties Place Hotel, where the student body gathered for a grand Opening Ceremony. Under the theme “Diverse in Houses, United in Spirit: Creating a stronger College of Arts and Sciences Community through camaraderie and collaboration,” the competitive fire was lit early as House Slytherin claimed the first victory of the week by winning the Emblem Contest. The excitement transitioned from the stage to the digital and academic arenas in the afternoon, featuring a rigorous Quiz Bee followed by the intense competition of the MLBB Season 2 tournament.

The second day focused on bridging the gap between the faculty and the student body through physical activity. On the morning of March 26, the College held a Sportsfest that featured mixed teams of male and female students competing against their instructors. This unique setup fostered a sense of approachability and teamwork, reinforcing the "United in Spirit" mantra by allowing students and faculty to interact in a high-energy, informal environment.

On the third day, the college shifted its focus outward to fulfill its commitment to social responsibility. The morning of March 27 was dedicated to a Community Extension Service Activity at Brgy. Baan Km3 in Butuan City, where participants conducted a productive Clean-Up Drive and visited Bethany Homes for a heartfelt gift-giving session. The afternoon saw a return to friendly rivalry during a Basketball Friendship Game against the Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) Arts & Sciences Program. Although FSUU ultimately won the game, the event served as a vital bridge for inter-school relations and sportsmanship.

The four-day celebration reached its spectacular conclusion on the evening of March 28 during the College Night held at the Almont Inland Resort. The night was filled with glamour and entertainment, highlighted by the much-anticipated MV Parody competition. Once again, Team Slytherin proved their creative prowess by winning the parody segment, a victory that secured their position at the top of the leaderboard. By the end of the night, House Slytherin was officially crowned the Over-all Champion, bringing the CAS Days 2026 to a triumphant close while leaving the community more connected than ever.

Legend tells of a castle hidden in the mists, a place where the air hums with the echoes of ancient spells and the footsteps of those who dared to be extraordinary. But the true magic of Hogwarts never lay in its stone walls or its shifting staircases. It lived in the souls of those who walked its halls. And today, that legend awakens here, within the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Great Hall is set. The banners are unfurled. And the air is thick with the scent of a storm. Wat h closely, for the shadows are lurking through the names of the five paths laid before you.

Five houses. Five spirits. One arena.

The ink is wet on the page, CAS. The quill is in your hand. Will you lead with bravery, seek with wisdom, serve with loyalty, rule with ambition, or conquer with the darkness?
The gates are open. The story is yours.

Let the preparation for the College of Arts and Sciences Days 2026 begin!
