The College of Forestry and Environmental Management (CFEM) successfully conducted a lecture titled “Integrating Geospatial Multi-Criteria Analysis and Stakeholder Perspectives in a Spatial Decision Support System: Applications in Environmental Management” on May 11, 2026, at the Bulwagan ng Sierra Madre, EIC Building, Isabela State University–Cabagan Campus.

The lecture was delivered by Prince Asare, a visiting scientist from the Thünen Institute of Forestry. He shared insights on the integration of spatial data and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis within a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS), highlighting its application in identifying and evaluating factors influencing land degradation in the Balasig-Dy Abra Watershed.

The activity was attended by BS Forestry and BS Environmental Science students, providing them with valuable knowledge and practical approaches that can be applied to their academic endeavors and future research projects. Faculty members of CFEM also participated in the lecture, fostering academic exchange and strengthening the college’s commitment to advancing innovative tools and approaches in environmental management and decision-making.

Regional collaboration and environmental stewardship were highlighted during the workshop “Regional Futures in Focus: Co-designing Land Use Scenarios and Nature-based Solution Pathways” held on May 6, 2026 at the RDET Building, ISU-Cabagan under the CITIZEN-SDSS Project, a collaborative initiative of Isabela State University (ISU), the Thünen Institute of Forestry in Germany, and Forest Foundation Philippines.

The regional-level workshop gathered representatives from the Region II offices of DENR, DEPDev, PAGASA, DA, and NIA, together with PENRO Isabela and Cagayan, and the Provincial Local Government Units (PLGUs) of Isabela and Cagayan, to discuss future land-use scenarios and Nature-based Solution pathways for resilient landscapes and communities.

The event was graced by ISU President Dr. Boyet L. Batang, who emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in building a sustainable and climate-resilient future for the region.

The activity formally opened with welcome remarks from CFEM Dean Dr. Maricon R. Perez, followed by the presentation of the workshop objectives by PRELIA Director and CITIZEN-SDSS Project Coordinator Ms. Myrna T. Ramos, highlighting the value of regional cooperation and partnership.

Mr. Prince Asare of the Thünen Institute presented the initial findings of the CITIZEN-SDSS Project, providing insights into current landscape conditions and emerging land-use trends in the region. Meanwhile, For. Jerika Mae C. Rivero, CFEM faculty member, discussed ecosystem services and Nature-based Solutions, emphasizing their role in environmental sustainability and community resilience.

Also present during the activity was For. Eric Buduan of Forest Foundation Philippines, showing support for the collaborative environmental initiatives of the project.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks from ISU Cabagan Campus Executive Officer Dr. Jane G. Cabauatan, reaffirming the university’s commitment to sustainability initiatives and collaborative action for resilient communities and landscapes.

The workshop served as a meaningful platform for regional stakeholders to co-create sustainable pathways and strengthen institutional partnerships toward a more adaptive and climate-resilient future.

The two graduate programs of the College of Forestry and Environmental Management (CFEM) — Doctor of Philosophy in Forest Resource Management major in Environmental Management (PHDRM-EM) and Master of Science in Environmental Science (MSES) successfully underwent the Technical Panel Evaluation on April 20, 2026, held at the CFEM Conference Hall.

The evaluation was conducted by Dr. Mark Dondi Arboleda of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, together with Ms. Clarizze Angelu Aquino and Ms. Jee A. Evangelista-Liban from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) National and Regional Offices, respectively. The panel assessed various areas of the programs, including research, extension, instruction, and facilities such as the Environmental Research and Services Laboratory, Herbarium, and Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

The activity was attended by ISU Cabagan campus officials led by Campus Executive Officer Dr. Jane G. Cabauatan, QA Director Dr. Allen V. Paz, and MIS Director Dr. Rosalinda Guingab.

CFEM remains steadfast in its commitment to continuously strengthen and improve its academic programs in pursuit of producing competent and globally competitive professionals dedicated to environmental management.
