𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐒𝐔 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐕𝐋 𝐃𝐫. 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) Castilla Campus hosted International Visiting Professor Dr. Venkat Bakthavatchaalam of Cardiff University School of Engineering, United Kingdom, for a professional lecture and campus visit on September 7, 2026.

Organized through the Office of the International Relations (IRO) and the Office of Research and Development Services (ORDS), the activity focused on “Sustainability-Driven Transformation in Higher Education Curriculum.” The engagement brought together faculty members, students, and university officials for an academic lecture, open forum, and campus activities.

Dr. Bakthavatchaalam discussed the role of sustainability in higher education curricula and its relevance to addressing environmental and societal concerns. The lecture also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange insights on sustainability and its integration into higher education.

Acting Campus Director Dr. Milagros N. Ebuenga delivered the welcome remarks and acknowledged the visiting professor's contribution to the academic engagement. Ms. Mari Anne B. Gojar, International Relations Coordinator, also delivered the statement of purpose and introduction of Dr. Venkat. The program also included an open forum and sharing of insights, followed by the awarding of a token and certificate. Dr. Oscar Peter D. Pascual, Program Chair of Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering, delivered the closing remarks, acknowledging the visiting lecturer's visit and his sharing of expertise to the agriculture students.

Following the lecture, Dr. Bakthavatchaalam joined university officials and participants in a campus tour and pili tree-planting activity. He was introduced to agricultural activities and facilities at the Castilla Campus, including ornamental plant production, hydroponic lettuce replanting, and pili planting.

The campus visit also included hands-on activities related to local agriculture, including interaction with a carabao, pili grafting, and pili cracking using a stone. These activities provided an opportunity for the visiting professor to engage with agricultural practices associated with the campus and the local community.

The professional lecture and campus visit formed part of SorSU Castilla Campus' efforts to support academic exchange and knowledge sharing, particularly on sustainability-driven transformation in higher education and its connection to community and agricultural development.

Ipinagdiwang ng Pampamahalaang Pamantasan ng Sorsogon Kampus ng Castilla ang Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2026 na may temang “Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon” noong Agosto 26, 2026. Masiglang lumahok sa okasyong ito ang mga opisyales, g**o, kawani, at mga mag-aaral ng SorSU upang ipagdiwang ang kulturang Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng pagsusuot ng mga makukulay, tradisyunal, at modernong kasuotang Filipiniana at katutubong Pilipino na kanilang ipinakita sa pamamagitan ng isang parada.

Sa pambungad na pananalita ni Dr. Milagros N. Ebuenga, Direktor ng Kampus ng Castilla, ipinaalala niya sa atin na marapat nating huwag kalimutan ang sarili nating wika at kultura sa harap ng makabagong teknolohiya; sa halip, ito ay dapat nating payabungin.

Sa mensahe naman ni Dr. Felisa D. Marbella, Direktor ng SorSU Sentro ng Wika at Kultura, kaniyang nabanggit na mahalagang matutong gumamit ng bagong teknolohiya at sumuri ng impormasyon, ngunit kailangan pa ring ipagmalaki at gamitin ang sarili nating wika’t pagkakakilanlan.

Sa paningit na bilang ay nagpamalas naman ng talento sa pagsayaw ang Agrikorista de Castilla, na binubuo ng mga kaguruan at kawani ng Kampus ng Castilla. Ang kanilang sayaw ay kumuha ng inspirasyon sa bansang Myanmar, isa sa ating mga kapatid sa Timog-Silangang Asya. Sumunod naman sa Agrikorista de Castiila ang mga mananayaw ng Kultura at Arte sa isang makulay at labis na nakabibighaning numero.

Sa kanyang mensahe, ipinaalala sa atin ni Pangulong De Jesus ang malalim na kahalagahan ng ating wika. Ayon sa kanya, ang wikang Filipino at ang mga katutubong wika sa bansa ay hindi lamang instrumento sa pakikipagtalastasan—ang mga ito ay haligi ng ating kalayaan, kasarinlan, at pambansang dangal. Kaniya ring binigyang-diin na hamon at pananagutan nating bawat isa na buhayin, pangalagaan, at ipagpatuloy ang pagpapahalaga sa ating sariling wika, kultura, at pagkakakilanlan saan man tayo magtungo.

Nagpamalas din ng husay sa pagsayaw ang daan-daang magaaral na nasa una at ikalawang taon nang sila ay sumayaw ng Pantomina de Sorsogon. Maya’t maya naman at sila’y dinaluhan ng mga opisyales, g**o, at kawani ng paaralan kaya’t nagmistulang pistahan ang pagdiriwang. Matapos naman ang sayawan ay nagsalusalo ang lahat sa Kainan sa Uma.

Ginanap naman kinahapunan ang Laro ng Lahi, at iba’t ibang patimpalak, tulad ng ng pagbigkas ng sariling tula, isahang pag-awit, at dagliang talumpati. Pagkatapos ng paligsahan ay ginawaran ng parangal ang mga nanalo sa iba’t ibang patimpalak at ang mga mag-aaral na may pinakamahusay na kasuotan.

Ang matagumpay na pagdiriwang na ito ay patunay lamang na sa kabila ng mabilis na pag-unlad ng makabagong teknolohiya tulad ng AI, nananatiling buhay at nag-aalab ang pagmamahal ng komunidad ng SorSU Castilla sa pambansang wika at kulturang Pilipino. Sa pagtatapos ng makabuluhang okasyong ito, baon ng bawat opisyales, g**o, kawani, at mag-aaral ang hamon na patuloy na gamitin ang wika hindi lamang bilang kasangkapan sa karunungan, kundi bilang habambuhay na simbolo ng pambansang dangal at pagkakakilanlan.

Ang Kaunan sa Uma ay isang inisyatiba ng Sorsogon State University Alumni Officers na naglalayong patatagin ang pakikipagkapwa-tao at linangin ang makabuluhang ugnayan sa pagitan ng mga alumni, mag-aaral, g**o, at ng buong komunidad ng unibersidad. Nagbibigay ito ng pagkakataon upang itaguyod ang pagkakaisa, magbahagi ng mga karanasan, at palakasin ang patuloy na koneksyon ng mga alumni sa institusyon.

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) joins Filipinos nationwide in commemorating the 43rd death anniversary of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. on August 21, 2026.

Ninoy Aquino’s life and public service remain associated with the struggle for democracy and the Filipino people’s call for freedom and good governance.

His legacy continues to remind Filipinos of the importance of courage, public service, and standing for principles that serve the greater good.
