The UPLB Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics had its 6th DAAE Student Research Colloquium on Friday, May 15, 2026, with the theme "Pathways to Scholarly Contribution in Agricultural and Applied Economics." It was co-hosted with SEARCA and ฤแบกi hแปc Cแบงn Thฦก (Can Tho University).
At the plenary, Dr. Antonio Jesus A. Quilloy provided an analogy between arts and textbook writing as he deconstructed textbook writing in the field of agricultural and applied economics. It was followed by a comprehensive lecture by Dr. Julieta A. Delos Reyes, who outlined the important steps from thesis to publication and encouraged the participants that they, too, can publish their research work. In the parallel sessions in the afternoon, the colloquium featured 34 oral presentations and 21 poster presentations from its undergraduate and graduate students, specifically in AAE 195 (Introduction to Research Methods in Agricultural and Applied Economics), AAE 199 (Undergraduate Seminar), AECO 291 (Quantitative Analysis in Agricultural and Applied Economics), and AECO 299 (Graduate Seminar). For the first time, the colloquium also involved the oral presentations of research work from the undergraduate students from Can Tho University.
The colloquium was the culmination of a weeklong series of events organized by the department for Can Tho University. The other events included were:
May 11 - Welcome Dinner hosted by DAAE
May 13 - Field trip to Nagcarlan and Liliw, Laguna
May 14 - CEM Academic Program Orientation as well as two seminars from Dr. Prudenciano U. Gordoncillo on bounded rationality and Asst. Prof. Normito Zapata, Jr., on the CAMELS approach and sustainable finance
