Students from the University of the Philippines Manila, together with their Faculty-in-Charge (FIC), visited the Plantation Crops Area and Vegetable Demonstration Area of the Institute of Crop Science (ICropS) on October 28, 2026, as part of the CAFS Viaje.
The visit featured demonstrations on Abaca and Coffee Processing, where students had the opportunity to experience firsthand the process of extracting abaca fibers and learn how these fibers are transformed into raw materials for various products. They also participated in a discussion on coffee production, roasting processes, and the different varieties of coffee trees. Lectures were delivered by Dr. Maria Victoria R. Bascon and assisted by Mr. Danilo T. Santos, Mr. Edwin A. Famisan, and Mr. Lim Brian R. Aranda.
The students likewise experienced the "Pick and Pay" activity at the Vegetable Demonstration Area, which showcases an actual learning activity integrated into laboratory classes of the BS Agriculture program under ICropS. Through this hands-on experience, they gained a closer appreciation of vegetable production, harvesting, and the value of agricultural learning beyond the classroom.
