JRMSU Welcomes CPSC Representative for Benchmarking on Instructional Materials Development

The Instructional Materials Development Office (IMDO) of Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Main Campus hosted a two-day benchmarking visit on December 10–11, 2025, welcoming Associate Professor Oliver R. T. Paderanga of Camiguin Polytechnic State College (CPSC).

Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina, Director for IMD, together with Asst. Prof. Edelyn E. Pagara, UMD Unit Head of the Main Campus, formally received Associate Professor Paderanga at the IMD Office and facilitated discussions on JRMSU’s instructional materials development processes and best practices.

On December 10, 2025, Associate Professor Paderanga made a courtesy call at the Office of the University President and was warmly received by JRMSU President Dr. Maria Rio Abdon Naguit.

During the visit, Associate Professor Paderanga had a brief conversation with former JRMSU President Dr. Edgar S. Balbuena. He also toured the University Library, where Campus Librarian Ms. Fe Alavanza showcased various sections, including displays of copyrighted instructional materials developed by JRMSU faculty.

In a separate engagement, VPAA Dr. Jay D. Telen met with Associate Professor Paderanga to personally thank him for choosing JRMSU as his benchmarking site. Dr. Telen also commended the IMD Office for its productivity and active contributions as a unit.

JRMSU provided comprehensive information on formats, guidelines, and processes related to instructional materials design, development, and publication. Questions were thoroughly addressed, and best practices were shared to support CPSC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its instructional materials development initiatives.

JRMSU Dipolog Campus Submits New Batch of Instructional Materials for Evaluation

The Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Dipolog Campus has formally submitted a new set of instructional materials (IMs) for evaluation to the university’s Instructional Materials Development Office (IMDO). The materials, crafted by faculty members across various disciplines, are slated for review by the JRMSU Instructional Materials Development Evaluation Committee (JIMDEC).

In a communication addressed to Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina, Director for IMD, dated on November 24, 2025, the IMD Dipolog Campus Unit Head, Jograce E. Regencia, requested the assessment of numerous newly developed instructional materials. The submission underscores the university’s continued efforts to enhance teaching resources and support academic excellence.

The document lists a variety of instructional materials covering fields such as psychology, engineering, literature, retail management, midwifery, and transportation studies.

Each instructional material has been assigned to JIMDEC members for formal review. The committees are chaired by Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina and supported by various vice chairs and members with expertise relevant to the submitted works.

The IMD Office expressed gratitude to the faculty for their continued support and commitment to producing quality educational resources. This initiative aligns with JRMSU’s goal of fostering innovative, research-based, and learner-centered instruction across all campuses.

JRMSU–Tampilisan Campus Submits 15 New Instructional Materials for Review

Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte — November 24, 2025. The Instructional Materials Development (IMD) Office of Jose Rizal Memorial State University–Tampilisan Campus formally submitted 15 newly developed instructional materials for institutional review and evaluation.

The submission was personally handed over by Assoc. Prof. Elmira C. Rodriguez, IMD Unit Head of JRMSU-TC, marking another significant milestone in the campus’ continuous effort to enhance teaching and learning resources across academic programs.

The newly compiled modules were crafted by faculty members from various departments. These resources aim to support quality instruction, promote flexible learning, and strengthen the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

According to the IMD Office, the development and submission of these materials form part of JRMSU-Tampilisan's ongoing initiatives to align instructional content with updated curricular standards and the needs of 21st-century learners.

The materials are now scheduled for evaluation by the university’s internal reviewers called JIMDEC or JRMSU Instructional Materials Development Evaluation Committee before their official adoption for classroom and online instruction.

JRMSU-TC Hosts In-Service Training and Writeshop on Non-Flexible Learning Materials
Tampilisan, Zamboanga Del Norte – The Jose Rizal Memorial State University-Tampilisan Campus (JRMSU-TC) successfully conducted an In-Service Training and Writeshop for Non-Flexible Learning Materials on November 14, 2025, at the JRMSU-TC Admin Function Hall.
The full-day event, organized by the Institutional Materials Development (IMD) Office, aimed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills to develop high-quality, non-flexible instructional materials, such as modules, workbooks, and manuals.
The program commenced with an opening ceremony. Assoc. Prof. Elmira C. Rodriguez, Unit Head of IMD in JRMSU-TC, delivered the Welcome Remarks, providing the rationale for the Training-Writeshop. Dr. Dana Faye T. Salundaguit, the Campus Director, also provided an Inspirational Message emphasizing the benefits of producing instructional materials.
The intensive training session was led by Asst. Prof. Edelyn E. Pagara, the Unit Head of IMD-Main Campus, served as the Resource Speaker. She discussed the "Components of Writing Non-FL Materials as well as the "Format and Guidelines in Writing Non-FL Materials". An Open Forum concluded the morning training activities.
The afternoon was dedicated to the practical application of the training, where participants worked on their outputs. It culminated with the Presentation and Critiquing of Outputs involving the Participants, the Resource Speaker, the Unit Head, and IMD Chairpersons.
Mr. Daryl Edrial, one of the participants, said that “Honestly, this is my first time joining an in-service training writeshop, and I am very grateful for the chance to be part of this experience. Learning how to make non-flexible instructional materials helped me understand many things that will support my growth as a teacher. I truly appreciate all the guidance and support you provided during the session. He expressed his gratefulness to the IMD Office “for this opportunity to learn, improve, and be inspired.”
The event concluded with the Awarding of Certificates of Appreciation/Recognition for the speaker and participants. Mr. Albin A. Ditay, IMD Chairperson of SCJE, delivered the Closing Remarks. Asst. Prof. Herford Rei B. Guibangguibang, IMD Chairperson of CTED, served as the Host.

IMDO personnel join convergence for directors and unit heads

IMDO personnel participated in the Convergence for Directors and Unit Heads held on November 17, 2025 at Mibang Hotel, Dipolog City. The activity was facilitated by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

This activity aims to strengthen collaboration and alignment among directors through planning and evaluation sessions focused on the improvement and implementation of the university’s academic programs and initiatives for the next academic year.

The one-day session included the revision of office quality objectives in alignment with the university’s VMGO and quality objectives, strategic plan coding, and the identification of issues and concerns, along with proposed interventions to address them.

Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina, Director for IMD, submitted the consolidated outputs of the three workshops with the help of the four IMD Unit Heads: Dr. Rogelio Murro of Katipunan Campus, Assoc. Prof. Jograce Regencia, Assoc. Prof. Elmira Rodriguez, and Asst. Prof. Edelyn E. Pagara.

JRMSU IMD Office Welcomes USM Officials for Benchmarking Visit

The JRMSU Instructional Materials Development (IMD) Office warmly welcomed officials and faculty members from the Department of English, Language, and Literature of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) during their benchmark activity on Instructional Materials (IMs) development and publication held on November 7, 2025, at the JRMSU Main Campus in Dapitan City.

The IMD Office was among the key units the visiting team sought to learn from, particularly in exploring JRMSU’s best practices on IM development and dissemination to students. Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina, IMD Director, shared essential insights on the office’s processes, procedures, and incentive mechanisms for IM creation and publication. She also addressed various queries raised by the USM delegates.

The visit was facilitated by Dr. Archer C. Campoy, Associate Dean of CLAMS – Main Campus, together with Ms. Naomie B. Daguinotas, faculty member.

Empowering 21st Century Teaching at NMSCST

On November 11, 2025, Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina, Director for Instructional Materials Development, led a dynamic seminar-workshop at Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology, Tangub City, for faculty from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS).

Focusing on “Reimagining Learning: Creative Pedagogies for the Gen Z Classroom” and “Tech-Integrated Teaching: Harnessing Digital Tools for Active Learning,” the session explored innovative ways to engage Gen Z learners. Participants were mentored in creating digital storytelling, interactive storytelling, on-the-spot story creation, PowerPoint games, online games, animated videos, and collaborative writing projects. Hands-on demonstrations highlighted the use of online tools to foster participatory, technology-driven learning.

The interactive session not only allowed faculty to explore creative teaching strategies but also encouraged collaboration and immediate application of digital tools in the classroom. Feedback and prizes capped off the event, celebrating active participation and innovative ideas.

The seminar was graced by College Dean Dr. Ruth Juanillo, VPASS Dr. Rowena Jaber, and other officials, reinforcing NMSCST’s commitment to pedagogical excellence.

JRMSU Main, July 4, 2025— In its ongoing commitment to ensure the quality of instructional resources, personnel from the Supply Office of JRMSU Main Campus visited the Instructional Materials Development (IMD) Office on July 4 to inspect newly printed materials intended for academic and community use.

The inspection covered 10 copies of Instructional Materials on Course Module Development and 10 copies on Packaging of Course Modules in the New Normal, which were recently picked up from a local printing press.

This quality check is part of the university’s broader effort to provide high-standard instructional materials that support “classroom instruction,” “community extension programs,” and “institutional accreditation requirements.”

Officials emphasized that well-developed and properly packaged instructional modules are essential not only in enhancing teaching and learning but also in showcasing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.

On June 24, 2025, two personnel from the Supply Office visited the Instructional Materials Development Office (IMDO) of JRMSU Main Campus to inspect 40 hardbound modules and workbooks for undergraduate programs and 20 sourcebooks for graduate programs, which were recently received from the local printing press. All materials are copyrighted and were developed to ensure high-quality and standardized content delivery across the university’s five campuses.

This initiative reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to producing quality printed instructional materials (IMs) that support effective teaching and learning. These IMs will not only aid in classroom instruction but also serve as key references during academic accreditation and benchmark activities. Each author will be provided with one (1) copy of their work, and the rest will be distributed to the campuses.

Additionally, 20 more instructional materials are expected to be delivered by the end of June or early July 2025, further strengthening the university’s efforts to enhance instructional quality and academic excellence.

Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina shares expertise on digital instructional materials in USJ-R webinar

Dr. Jovelyn M. Cantina, the Director for Instructional Materials Development of Jose Rizal Memorial State University, served as the resource speaker on June 13, 2025 in a recent webinar titled “Digital Instructional Materials, Tools, Techniques, and Best Practices for EFL Classrooms.” The event was organized by the PhD ELang 113 class of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Cebu City, under the guidance of Dr. Aida V***a Un. The session aimed to equip educators and graduate students with innovative strategies for enhancing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction through digital tools and methodologies.

In her talk, Dr. Cantina presented comprehensive insights into the use of digital technology in instructional materials development. Key topics included the integration of digital tools and software in instructional material systems, designing for online and blended learning environments, and the application of multimedia learning principles. Her lecture emphasized the importance of purposeful and learner-centered digital material design to foster engagement and improve learning outcomes.

The webinar also covered the fundamentals of video and audio production for instructional purposes, providing participants with practical knowledge for creating effective and engaging content. Dr. Cantina’s expertise and practical approach made the session a valuable opportunity for educators seeking to modernize their teaching practices and adapt to the evolving demands of digital and remote learning environments.

In addition to her insightful lecture, Dr. Cantina conducted hands-on demonstrations to showcase practical applications of digital tools for classroom instruction. She guided participants through the process of creating an interactive quiz competition using Mentimeter, fostering real-time engagement and assessment. Attendees also explored reflective learning through a brief activity using Padlet, where they wrote short reflective paragraphs to experience collaborative digital writing. Furthermore, Dr. Cantina demonstrated the development of animated videos and dynamic presentations using Powtoon, highlighting how multimedia elements can enhance instructional materials and captivate learners. These demonstrations provided attendees with tangible skills and inspiration to integrate technology meaningfully into their own teaching practices.
