OPERATION: THE LEGAL FRONTIER

The Davao City Justice Zone, in collaboration with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), successfully conducted a two-day Capacity Training for members of the Barangay council, IP Leaders, and Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) on Virtual Hearings on May 25–26, 2026 at Ritz Hotel.

The activity was conducted in preparation for the establishment of Judicial Hubs to be piloted in Brgy. Salumay and Brgy. Malabog.
These Judicial Hubs aim to assist litigants from far-flung communities by providing a venue where they may attend court hearings without the need to travel to the Hall of Justice in Ecoland.

The hubs are likewise envisioned to serve as community access points for legal assistance and consultations with various legal aid providers such as the IBP Legal Aid, Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), and Law School Legal Aid Centers.

Participants underwent training on:
✅Managing Video Conferencing Hearings
✅Understanding Indigenous Peoples and IPRA
✅The Courts and the Philippine Legal System
✅Case Procedure and Court Decorum
✅The Legal Aid System

The activity concluded with a simulation exercise where participants were given a glimpse of an actual virtual hearing setup through MS Teams allowing them to better understand their role in assisting litigants in the Judicial Hubs.

This initiative reflects a continuing commitment to inclusivity and ensures that even those in geographically isolated and underserved communities are given meaningful and convenient access to legal services and the courts.

As the only law school in Mindanao offering a Juris Doctor Thesis program, MiLawPRI celebrates the advancement of legal research in line with USeP SoL’s commitment to producing lawyers engaged in research-based policy development.

In compliance with the directive issued by the City Government of Davao regarding the suspension of classes and work today, May 19, 2026, the School of Law Admission Test scheduled for today is POSTPONED.

The admission test is rescheduled tomorrow, May 20, 2026.

Scheduled examinees will receive an email from the School of Law Admissions.

[𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬] Classes and Work Suspension in USeP Davao City campuses on May 19, 2026

In compliance with the directive issued by the City Government of Davao due to heavy rainfall brought by Easterlies and ICTZ on Monday evening, USeP campuses in Davao City will implement the following measures on May 19, 2026:

Suspension of classes and examinations including all onsite activities and face-to-face transactions.

Suspension of work and all onsite transactions. Transacting clients are encouraged to utilize online payment methods and access USeP online services.

Suspension of onsite pre-enrollment activities for incoming first-year students. Those scheduled to submit enrollment requirements in person are advised to wait for the announcement of the new schedule.

𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐚𝐰: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫

On April 24, 2026, students enrolled in Public Law under Atty. Ravena Joy Rama at the University of Southeastern Philippines – School of Law organized a relief distribution activity for public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers affected by the continuing increase in fuel prices.

“Para Kay Manong Driver” aims to not only assist the hardworking PUJ drivers in the Obrero area but also to embody the principles of public service and social responsibility that the students are learning in the classroom. This initiative serves as a reminder that the role of future legal professionals is rooted in empathy, community engagement, and meaningful action.

The activity was made possible through donations and support received from various individuals and stakeholders who participated in the fundraising campaign. The initiative highlighted the importance of collective community action in addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable sectors during periods of economic hardship.

Sincere appreciation is extended to all donors, volunteers, and supporters whose contributions helped make the relief drive possible.

More importantly, this effort affirms that even simple collective action can foster solidarity, strengthen community ties, and reflect the deeper civic duty to care for others, especially those in need.

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) School of Law takes pride in nurturing legal professionals dedicated to serving the people and expanding access to justice. Atty. Eufemia “Mia” C. Aguelo-Faller, is a proud member of Batch Subang, whose journey beautifully exemplifies USeP's profound commitment to bridging the law and the community.

Deeply involved in Indigenous Peoples (IP) advocacy, Atty. Mia goes beyond the traditional practice of law. As the current USeP School of Law Alumni Association President and former Student Council Governor, she shares how her time at the University equipped her with the vision and passion to become a community-centered advocate. Her story serves as a powerful inspiration for aspiring law students who wish to use the legal profession to make a meaningful difference.

Nine (9) Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) students from the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) – School of Law formally took their oath as Level II CLEP students before Executive Judge Hon. Rowena M. Apao-Adlawan, together with their Supervising Lawyer, Atty. Jesus A. Villardo III.

Their oath marks not only a significant milestone in their legal education but also their continued commitment to ethical practice and professional growth under the CLEP program.

The Davao City Justice Zone (DCJZ) extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the newly sworn-in Level II CLEP students as they take on greater responsibilities in their legal training journey.

𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐈 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Certified Level II Law Student Practitioners (LSPs) of the University of Southeastern Philippines School of Law (USeP SoL) took their learning beyond the classroom for their Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) II, under the supervision of CLEP II Faculty In Charge, Atty. Arlene L. Cosape and USeP Legal Services Center Director, Atty. Jesus A. Villardo III.

Pursuant to Rule 138-A of the Law Student Practice Rule, CLEP is institutionalized in law schools to enhance learning opportunities to law students, ensure access to justice of the marginalized, instill among them the value of legal professional social responsibility, and to prepare them for the practice of law.

As part of their Level II practice, the LSPs undertook core clinical activities, including court appearances involving cross-examination and verification of documents, as well as client interviews and case conferences. Some LSPs also served as Resource Persons in a Pre-Deployment Seminar for Interns, with focus on relevant gender laws.

The LSPs also conducted legal advocacy with the officers of the Persons with Disability (PWD) Association of Brgy. 17-B Poblacion District, focused on providing the context behind the 20% PWD discount on basic necessities and prime commodities, how it is being implemented, and the factors affecting the availment and implementation of the discount.

Through these activities, USeP SoL students under the Clinical Legal Education Program contribute to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals 5: Gender Equality, 10: Reduced Inequalities, 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and 17: Partnerships for the Goals by integrating gender-responsive legal training, providing legal services to marginalized sectors such as persons with disabilities, strengthening institutional and procedural competence through supervised clinical practice, and fostering collaborative engagement with community organizations.
