ADVISORY | Haze Alert

Due to the continuing transboundary haze in Davao City, UP Mindanao constituents are advised to take precautions:

- Wear a well-fitting N95, KN95, or equivalent mask outdoors. Masks are available at the EBL for student residents and at the OSA Office, until supplies last.
- Limit outdoor exposure and keep doors and windows closed.
- Continue prescribed medications and take extra precautions if you have existing health conditions.
- Seek medical assistance at the University Infirmary if symptoms persist or worsen.
- Exercise caution when commuting and minimise unnecessary travel.
- Stay updated through official UP Mindanao, CHO, DOH, and DENR-EMB advisories.
- Stay calm, stay vigilant, and prioritise your health and safety.

LOOK | Affirmative Action Program (AAP) UPCAT Campaign of Ugnayan ng Pahinungod Mindanao goes to Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental

As part of the university’s ongoing efforts to democratize access to UP education, students were introduced to the degree programs offered at UP Mindanao and to student support services. The AAP featured College Entrance Exam Simulation Test, career talks, and sharing sessions on the UP journey from alumni volunteers.

The AAP UPCAT Campaign also visited La Filipina National High School in Tagum City on September 2, 2026.

Project Leader Ms. Mitchiko Ariola-Lopez presented two studies examining gender and equity in the coffee sector—from sex-disaggregated data for gender-responsive value chain governance to gender dynamics among coffee shop enterprises in Davao City.

"From Beans to Equity: Sex-Disaggregated Data as a Key to Gender-Responsive Value Chain Governance in Mindanao, Philippines" was recognized with the Best Presentation Award.

LOOK | The University of the Philippines Mindanao participated as a school exhibitor in the 3rd Tagum City Career Expo 2026, held on September 3–4, 2026, at Robinsons Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

With the theme “Career Hunters: Back to Shape the Future,” the two-day event brought together schools, students, and career-oriented organisations to provide learners with opportunities to explore educational pathways and future career options. UP Mindanao showcased its academic programmes and provided information to prospective students interested in pursuing their higher education at the University.

ICYMI | KADAYAWAN 2026 MINDANAO-WIDE DANCESPORT CHAMPIONSHIP

UP Mindanao students showcased their talent and competitive spirit at the Kadayawan 2026 Mindanao-Wide Dancesport Championship, held on August 22, 2026, at UP Mindanao.

Organised by the Regional Dancesport Council of Davao, in partnership with the Davao City Sports Development Division Office and the UP Mindanao Department of Human Kinetics, the championship brought together dancers from schools and institutions across Mindanao.

UP Mindanao dancers secured multiple podium finishes across tertiary, intercollegiate, amateur, and solo categories, including championship titles in Tertiary Synchronized Standard D, Solo Tertiary Standard, and Intercollegiate Latin A.

Congratulations to all our UP Mindanao dancers for representing the University with excellence!

SPEECH HIGHLIGHTS | The launching of the UP Mindanao School of Medicine brought together its pioneering batch, Batch Banwag, composed of 40 students; UP President Atty. Angelo Jimenez; former DOH Secretary Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan, MD, MPH, who served as guest speaker; and UP Mindanao Chancellor Prof. Lyre Anni E. Murao, who shared heartfelt messages during this historic milestone.

During the opening remarks, Chancellor Murao emphasized the inspiration that the pioneering batch will mark in this momentous beginning. " You are clearing a path for future generations to walk with ease."

In the message of the UP President Angelo Jimenez, he reaffirmed the University's enduring commitment to public service. “UP exists for the people. We live by enduring the values of honor, excellence, and service.”

Dr. Galvez Tan reminded the pioneering batch of the heart behind their calling. "The desire to serve the people of Mindanao must come from your heart, soul, mind, strength, and political will."

The journey of Batch Banwag begins. With it, a path toward a healthier Mindanao.

A historic milestone for UP Mindanao as it officially launched the School of Medicine (SoMed) on September 4, 2026, at SoMed Campus, Ecoland, Davao City.

At the heart of this new chapter is Batch Banwag, the pioneering batch of 40 medical students who will undertake a five-year journey shaped by the Organ System Integrated (OSI) curriculum of the UP Manila School of Health Sciences—preparing them to become community-centered physicians who will serve and help shape the future of Mindanao.

The launching brought together UP President Angelo A. Jimenez, UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni E. Murao, SoMed Interim Dean Philip Ian P. Padilla, former DOH Secretary Jaime Z.
