Davao City Council recognizes Francisco Navalta, the 17-year-old developer of DavaoGo 📱💚🦅

The Davao City Council, during its 43rd regular session yesterday, October 28, recognized Francisco Navalta, a 17-year-old student at Assumption College of Davao and developer of the DavaoGo app.

DavaoGo is an independent public transportation and commuter navigation app for Davao City designed to help residents and visitors find routes, check fares, and navigate the city more efficiently.

In a privilege speech, Councilor Bonz Militar, chairperson of the Committee on Information Technology, highlighted how the app leverages technology to assist Dabawenyos in their daily commutes. He also praised DavaoGo for being completely free to use and featuring a built-in AI assistant. Following the speech, the council passed a resolution to officially commend the young student-developer.

ADVISORY | SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES AND CLASS ARRANGEMENTS

Please be guided by the following schedule of activities and class arrangements for the upcoming enrollment period, Wellness Break, and observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

📌 October 26–28, 2026: Enrollment Period for the College Department
📌 October 29–31, 2026: Wellness Break
📌 November 1–2, 2026: All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day
📌 November 3–4, 2026: All classes across all departments will be conducted asynchronously.
📌 November 5, 2026: College Department classes will be conducted asynchronously. Face-to-face classes will resume for the Elementary, Junior High School (JHS), and Senior High School (SHS) Units. All offices will also resume their regular transactions and operations.

Everyone is encouraged to take note of these schedules and make the necessary arrangements accordingly.

As Davao City experiences extreme heat, let us prioritize our health and safety. According to the CDRRMO-OPCEN Heat Index Update, the city's heat index reached 40.9°C as of 3:00 PM on October 21, 2026, placing residents under EXTREME CAUTION.

With the potentially record-breaking El Niño conditions, everyone is encouraged to take extra precautions:

• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
• Minimize strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
• Wear light, breathable clothing and use sun protection.
• Watch out for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Let us practice responsible self-care and look after one another, especially our students, faculty, staff, and school community.

A 17-year-old Grade 12 student from Davao City has developed a free commuter app that reached the Top 10 Free Apps in Maps and Navigation on Google Play.

Francisco Navalta of Assumption College of Davao created DavaoGo to help commuters navigate local jeepney and DC Bus routes using public transit data from the LTFRB. He also uses the platform to share community donation drives and plans to explore expansion to iOS and possible real-time transit features.

ASSUMPTION COLLEGE OF DAVAO EARNS REGIONAL RECOGNITION IN PSITE–IT OLYMPIAD 2026

Assumption College of Davao (ACD) celebrates its students’ achievements at the IT Olympiad 2026, a collaborative initiative of CDITE-XI and PSITE-XI, held on October 16, 2026, at Ateneo de Davao University.

ACD secured 2nd Place and the Special Award for Best Promotional Video in the UI/UX Design Competition through Andy Zane B. Egut, Jessica Mae Suello, and Alexandra E. Mendoza, coached by Christine Marie D. Ordaneza, LPT.

Meanwhile, Erwin L. Curato Jr. and Job A. Maradia Jr. earned 4th Place in the IT Quiz Bowl, competing against 29 colleges and universities across Region XI.

These accomplishments highlight the creativity, technical expertise, and dedication of ACD’s student delegates, bringing pride to the institution and the League of Information Technology (LITS).

ASSUMPTION COLLEGE OF DAVAO PLACES FOURTH RUNNER-UP IN DTI DAVAO CITY CONSUMER WHIZ BEE 2026

Assumption College of Davao proudly celebrates its student representatives for securing 4th Runner-Up in the DTI Davao City Consumer Whiz Bee 2026, held in celebration of Consumer Welfare Month under the theme, “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”

Representing the institution in the competition were Princess Lorraine V. Borja and Isabella Marie A. Arsenal, with Azriel Shane M. Momo serving as the reserve contestant. Guiding and preparing the team for the competition was their coach, Julie Gel P. Senabre.

The competition provided a platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge of consumer rights, product safety, and responsible consumer practices. Through their participation, the ACD representatives showcased their commitment to learning and promoting consumer awareness in the community.

This achievement reflects the dedication and preparation of the students and their coach, bringing pride and honor to the Assumption College of Davao community.
