Quirino State University – Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) faculty successfully conducted an extension activity today, May 20, 2026, at Brgy. Eden, Cabarroguis, Quirino on Corn Cobs Charcoal Briquette Production.

The activity highlighted sustainable waste utilization and green innovation through the conversion of corn cobs into environmentally friendly charcoal briquettes. The training aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience on biomass utilization as an alternative source of fuel and potential livelihood opportunity.

Engr. Marijoy C. Awisen discussed the advantages of corn cobs charcoal briquettes, focusing on green innovation and biomass utilization in promoting environmental sustainability and reducing agricultural waste. Engr. Jheremy T. Escalante presented the process of making corn cob charcoal briquettes, including the different equipment used in the production process. Engr. Paul B. Pablo shared insights on the cost analysis and economic potential of charcoal briquette production.

To further enrich the learning experience, Engr. Israel M. Erana demonstrated the actual briquette-making process and guided the participants as they performed the complete production procedure themselves. The hands-on demonstration allowed the participants to actively engage and familiarize themselves with the technology.

This extension activity reflects the commitment of Quirino State University in fulfilling its vision of becoming β€œa university acculturizing innovation, life-long learning, and global excellence” and its mission of building β€œa culture of innovation, life-long learning, and global excellence through transformative instruction, research, community engagement, internationalization initiatives, and knowledge commercialization.”
