Iliganโs celebrated music educator, conductor, composer, and ethnomusicologist Francisco โFrankโ Englis has been officially recognized in the prestigious Cultural Center of the Philippines Encyclopedia of Philippine Art (CCP-EPA). His comprehensive profile is now part of the CCP's digital compendium, spotlighting his decades of groundbreaking work in Philippine music, arts, and education.
Best known as the founding conductor of the Octava Choral Society and composer of Goani, Englis led the ensemble to multiple national and international accolades, including a landmark first-place victory at the 1982 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) with no second and third prize awarded. His leadership helped position Mindanao as a vibrant cultural hub on the global music stage.
The inclusion of Englis in the CCP-EPA cements his legacy as a cultural pillar whose work continues to inspire and educate future generations.
The article was written by MSU-IIT Philosophy and Humanities Asst. Prof. Ernesto Zaldua Jr., edited by CCP-EPA's Area Editor for Music, UP Professor Arwin Q. Tan, with UP Professor Emeritus Nicanor G. Tiongson, as Editor-in-Chief.
