Happy Teacher's Day to our exceptional Economics Teachers!
Like the foundation of monuments, living testimonies of the legends they are dedicated to, society stands securely on the shoulders of the educated. Who are orators if not well-tuned instruments? Arenโt speeches but an idea brought to life by a well-trained mind, like melodies springing from a well-tuned flute? Where are the good policy makers, the skilled statisticians and debaters, and the legendary legislators? Arenโt they, but the fruits of a seed once sown by our educators?
Teachers are our cultivators, the farmers that till our soil. They prepare each student for life beyond the classroom walls, like a farmer who plants a seed in all their lined-up rows. Some lessons are like rice, ever so sustaining, supplementing, and a staple that we always carry with us. Other lessons are like the trees, keeping us rooted in what is true, while others are like flowers whose smell lingers even long after the morning dew. More than that, it is their lessons that allow us to dream of better things than what is simply taught, like the trellis that supports the vines as it grows up, up, and up.
Teachers are culture bearers, from one generation to the next. They are the lifelines of the hopes, dreams, and wisdom of the past. In the very halls of Silliman, most of our teachers too were students there in the past. They were the dreamers of a better future, then the nurturers of the dreams and hearts of those who came after. Whether it be a thesis on our library shelves, or the lessons they teach us themselves, we are the flame thatโs passed on from one bearer to the next.
Teachers are parental figures, our second home. Like fledglings out of the nest, newly flown. We leave our old world and the past that we once knew, or stumble in the steps of our lobbyโs halls, confused about what to do. The dark waters arenโt as cold when the bright light of the lighthouse shines through. Nobodyโs perfect; that is what we know is true, but our failures become lessons all thanks to you.
Teachers are many facets of the same gem: the cultivator of our minds, the one who passes the flame, and the parents who guide us every step of the day. They are our nation builders, our guides, and our lighthouse. The older link of the ever-continuing chain of humanity.
We thank all of our teachers here in CBA and in Economics, who continue to dedicate their time, effort, and love to doing all of the things that they do!
