In every election, the youth hold the power to create change โ not through popularity, noise, or influence, but through wise and responsible voting. As the Supreme Student Council, Student Body Organizations, and Departmental Elections approach, let us remember that leadership is not a popularity contest; it is a commitment to serve, lead, and represent with integrity.
In todayโs generation, many voters are easily influenced by social media hype, friendships, family connections, online trends, and empty promises. This reflects a toxic Filipino political culture that has existed for years โ choosing leaders because they are famous, entertaining, โclose to the people,โ or personally known, instead of examining their competence, credibility, and ability to lead.
Some vote out of โutang na loob,โ peer pressure, or because โlahat naman sila pare-pareho,โ causing deserving and capable leaders to be overlooked.
As young voters, we must break this cycle.
* Choose leaders who are responsible, honest, approachable, and willing to serve.
* Look at their platforms, experiences, actions, and dedication to the students.
* Support candidates who promote unity, accountability, and genuine leadership.
At the same time:
* Do not vote based on popularity, friendships, appearance, or social media influence alone.
* Do not spread misinformation, engage in toxic campaigning, or tolerate vote manipulation.
* Do not normalize blind loyalty over critical thinking.
A true leader is not the loudest person in the room, but the one who listens, acts, and serves with sincerity. The future of our school community depends on the choices we make today.
Be a wiser voter. Choose leaders with principles, not just popularity. Because a wise vote creates a better future.
