𝗬𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻, 𝗬𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝘂𝗵𝗮𝘆: 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗕𝗣𝗦

‎The Marine Biology Students Society has successfully conducted its first seminar, “𝗬𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻, 𝗬𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝘂𝗵𝗮𝘆: 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗕𝗣𝗦,” on October 7, 2026.
‎
‎The seminar began at exactly 1:00pm and ended at around 4:00pm. It introduced students to the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (𝗦𝗕𝗣𝗦), highlighting the 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗧 initiative and its efforts following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake last June 8, 2026, which devastated local infrastructure, disrupted regional trade, and created widespread social and economic challenges across the region.
‎
‎The discussion also focused on relevant 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, and the 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 when conducting marine-related studies and fieldwork within protected areas.
‎
‎As Sarangani Bay is closely connected to the academic field of 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 in General Santos, the seminar emphasized the importance of understanding the protected seascape and the regulations that govern its use and conservation.
‎
‎For Marine Biology students, knowledge of 𝗦𝗕𝗣𝗦 is particularly relevant to their 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, and future marine-related activities, helping them conduct studies responsibly while contributing to the protection of the bay’s marine ecosystems.

Participation from the student body from 1st Years to 4th Years was noticed. Questions about research, upcoming thesis and queries about the coastal uplift were asked.

‎Through the seminar, students gained a deeper appreciation of the importance of 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗕𝗮𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 and their role as future marine professionals in promoting 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀.

Indeed the seminar has created a strong bond between SBPS and MBSS forging a movement that will help conserve protect and uplift the spirit of Sarangani bay conservation for years to come.

‎Dive deeper into the wonders of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) and discover its role as a vital marine ecosystem and a living classroom for future stewards of the sea. A guest speaker from the Protected Area Management Office of Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape will guide us through an insightful exploration of the bay and the importance of protecting its treasures.

From strangers to schoolmates, and now to one marine family! The Marine Biology Students Society finally came together for a night of laughter, new connections, unforgettable moments, and, of course, a whole lot of chaos—Marine Bio na gud ni! 🌙🐠💃🕺

What a night—awkward introductions, questionably beautiful singing voices, all for the sake of the prize, games that brought out everyone’s competitive side, and meaningful conversations that turned unfamiliar faces into new friends.

What started as random interactions between seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen slowly turned into a night filled with shared laughter, meaningful connections, and memories to carry beyond the party. 🐚💙
