Mindanao State University – General Santos was established in 1967. The main campus houses the University’s administrative offices, student-support facilities, and seven of its colleges, namely: Agriculture, Business Administration and Accountancy, Education, Engineering, Fisheries, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Social Sciences and Humanities and its Senior High School Department. A satellite campus also lies at the heart of the city which houses its Junior High School Department, School of Graduate Studies, College of Law, and College of Medicine. In the outskirts of the city, at Brgy. Siguel, a field laboratory is dedicated to the fishery studies of the University. MSU-Gensan has a strong commitment to academic excellence. A testament to this is the successes achieved by its graduates with their top-notch performance in various Board Examinations. To also ensure that its academic programs are at par with the global standard of education, MSU-Gensan has become a member of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACUP) accrediting a number of its baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degree programs. Apart from its mandate of instruction, the University has also established its research capabilities garnering support from various local and national funding agencies for projects and programs that are in line with the research and extension priority areas of the University. At present, the University is conducting various research engagements related to Tuna fisheries, given the University’s location in the Tuna Capital of the Philippines, agricultural commodities, such as rice and corn in South Cotabato, environment and natural resources preservation, natural product development, engineering and technology, education, peace studies, and community extension services that focus on technology transfer and skills and capacity building of the people in its serviced communities. MSU-Gensan is also dedicated to championing its various peace initiatives as it gears towards becoming a National Peace University. In support of this, the University has become a pioneer in integrating the Fundamentals of Peace Education into its curricula and partnered with the Commission on Higher Education-Institutional Development and Innovation Grant (CHED-IDIG) to capacitate its faculty force in becoming peace educators. The University also extends support in various capacities to marginalized communities by creating extension works, promoting peaceful engagements, and building community resilience through the efforts of various university units and its Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao. Furthermore, its Office of International Affairs continues to expand the University’s programs internationally by partnering with various universities and colleges for mutual development and collaboration in areas of instruction, research, faculty development, staff exchange, and student mobility. On top of these, the most recent accomplishment of the University is the establishment of its College of Medicine. This pioneer state-funded medical degree program in General Santos and Region 12 is in support of RA 11509 or Doktor Para sa Bayan Law which aims to establish medical scholarships and return service programs to help deserving students to pursue medical education and training. The MSU- Gensan College of Medicine is dedicated to its vision to be a globally-competitive medical institution that produces excellent physicians who are grounded in clinical, academic, research, and public health care. Graduates are expected to cater to the medical needs of underserved communities and improve the quality of life of Muslims and Indigenous people in the region given the challenged health system of the country. Mindanao State University – General Santos, in partnership with the MSU-GenSan Multipurpose Cooperative, officially launched its E-Trike Public Transportation System on May 19, 2026, introducing a greener and more sustainable mode of transportation within the university campus.

With the theme, “E-Trike para sa Kalikasan, para sa mga Iskolar ng Bayan,” the initiative marks another milestone in the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability, innovation, and student-centered services.

As part of the launching activity held in Laktanan, five electric tricycles (E-trikes) were formally rolled out to begin operations around the campus. To allow students and members of the university community to experience the new transportation system, free rides were offered from May 19-20.

The E-trikes will follow a rotational trip around the campus starting from the front gate and passing through the College of Fisheries (COF) and College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), continuing toward Gemma, Tanghal, Office of Student Affairs (OSA), the Gymnasium area, the back gate, Infirmary, Ladies’ Dorm Annex, and nearby academic buildings before returning to the starting point.

MSU-GenSan Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas expressed his gratitude to the MSU-GenSan Multipurpose Cooperative for spearheading the initiative and assured the administration’s support for future projects that benefit the university community. “Rest assured that the administration will continue to support projects that contribute to the welfare of the university and our students. Congratulations also to the cooperative for this endeavor, and we look forward to more meaningful projects together,” He said..

The Chancellor also personally tested the newly launched E-trikes by driving one around the campus during the activity, symbolizing the administration’s support for sustainable and innovative campus development.

The project reflects the university’s continued efforts to promote environmentally friendly transportation solutions while improving mobility and convenience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors inside the campus.

The Mindanao State University – General Santos community gathered for its weekly flag raising ceremony on May 19, 2026, led by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension and Innovation in celebration of the National Farmers and Fisherfolk Month.
The ceremony served not only as a gathering of patriotism and solidarity, but also as a recognition of the vital role of farmers and fisherfolk in sustaining communities, food security, and national development.

During his message, Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas highlighted MSU-GenSan’s recent milestone following the successful ISO 21001:2018 Stage 2 Audit, where the university was recommended for certification, marking a historic first in the MSU System.

He emphasized the significance of sustaining excellence beyond compliance, stating: “We have proven that MSU-General Santos can meet global standards. The challenge now is not how we achieved it, but how we sustain it, making excellence a culture in every office, classroom, and individual in the institution.”

The Chancellor also congratulated the 32 topnotchers of the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), recognizing their achievement as a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence and quality education.

He further expressed optimism for another positive development in the coming days as MSU-GenSan continues to pursue greater milestones in innovation, research, and institutional excellence.

In appreciation of the commitment for the exigency of service last Friday, May 15, 2026, and to celebrate the succesful conclusion of the ISO 21001:2018 Stage 2 Audit, Monday, May 18, 2026, is declared as a University Rest Day.

Administrative work is hereby suspended except for the College of Medicine, College of Law, and College of Health Sciences. Further, units or offices rendering essential services are directed to maintain a skeletal workforce.

Normal operations and the release of the official University Memorandum will be on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

For five days, Mindanao State University–General Santos demonstrated its commitment to quality assurance and globally aligned educational management systems through the successful conduct of the ISO 21001:2018 Stage 2 Audit.

From the opening program and top management presentation to the series of assessments across colleges, graduate programs, administrative offices, student support services, and university facilities, the audit journey reflected the collective effort and dedication of the entire MSU–GenSan community in upholding excellence in educational service delivery.

The successful conduct of the audit was made possible through the leadership of Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Mindanao State University–General Santos successfully concluded its ISO 21001:2018 Stage 2 Audit on May 15, 2026, marking another significant milestone in the university’s continuing pursuit of institutional excellence and globally aligned educational management systems.

With this achievement, MSU–GenSan has been officially recommended for ISO 21001:2018 Certification, reflecting the collective dedication, preparedness, and unwavering commitment of the entire university community toward fostering quality educational management and internationally aligned standards.

The five-day audit evaluated the implementation, effectiveness, and sustainability of the university’s Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS) across colleges, graduate programs, administrative offices, student support services, and university facilities. Throughout the audit process, academic units and offices presented their operational systems, learner-centered services, documentation processes, and quality assurance practices aligned with international standards.

The audit was conducted by the TÜV Rheinland audit team composed of Mary Grace Balobalo as Audit Leader, together with auditors Tengku Hermansya and Abdul Manan Aruli. During the closing program, the audit team formally presented the audit findings, highlighting observations, commendations, and recommendations gathered throughout the five-day evaluation process.

Following the presentation of findings, Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas delivered his response, expressing gratitude to the auditors, university officials, faculty members, staff, and quality assurance focal persons for their collective dedication and cooperation throughout the audit journey. “This achievement is a testament to the unity and hard work of the entire MSU–GenSan community.”

To formally conclude the activity, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development Dr. Randy P. Asturias also delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, and institutional commitment in sustaining quality educational services and advancing the university’s culture of excellence.

The successful completion of the Stage 2 Audit reflects the collective effort and commitment of the entire MSU–GenSan community under the leadership of Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. The top 20% of applicants based on MSU-General Santos Absorptive Capacity were already sent their Confirmation Notices.

Applicants who qualify within the top 20% of the BS Nursing program were sent a Qualification Notice for the Nursing Aptitude Test (NAT) and Panel Interview, the details of which are to be announced. Please follow our page for further updates on the schedule and venue.

The ranking for the remaining 80% of the absorptive capacity will be processed once the top 20% has been finalized.

Mindanao State University–General Santos reached Day 4 of its ISO 21001:2018 Stage 2 Audit on May 14, 2026, further reinforcing the university’s commitment to quality assurance and internationally aligned educational management systems as the institution nears the culmination of the five-day audit process.

The fourth day of the audit focused on the assessment and evaluation of administrative offices, support service units, and academic facilities, where auditors reviewed institutional procedures, documentation systems, operational processes, learner-centered services, and quality assurance practices in accordance with ISO standards.

Under Site 1, the offices evaluated included the Office of Advance Education and Lifelong Learning, Medical Services Department, Human Resource Management and Development Office, Center for Women’s Studies, Procurement Management Office, Supply and Property Management Office, and Housing Management.

Meanwhile, Site 2 focused on the assessment and continuation audit of the College of Medicine and School Facilities, where auditors examined academic support systems, facility management practices, operational procedures, and institutional records aligned with the university’s quality management initiatives.

Throughout the audit activities, offices and academic units presented their respective operational systems, best practices, documentation processes, and service delivery mechanisms that reflect the university’s dedication to efficiency, accountability, and continuous institutional improvement. The assessments also served as opportunities to further strengthen systems and ensure alignment with international quality management standards.

As the university moves closer to the final day of the audit, faculty members, staff, administrators, and support personnel continue to work collectively with optimism and determination as the institution looks forward to a positive outcome in its pursuit of ISO 21001:2018 certification.

Mindanao State University–General Santos continued its ISO 21001:2018 Stage 2 Audit on Days 2 and 3, further strengthening the university’s commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and internationally aligned educational management systems.

The audit activities focused on the assessment and evaluation of various colleges, graduate programs, and university offices, where auditors reviewed operational procedures, service delivery systems, documentation processes, and quality assurance practices in accordance with ISO standards.

During Day 2, auditors visited the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Cultural Affairs Office, Office of International Affairs, Alumni Affairs Office, National Service Training Program (NSTP), Office of Student Housing and Dormitories, and the Business Office. The audit team also assessed the School of Graduate Studies building and classrooms, along with the College of Medicine laboratory.

Meanwhile, Day 3 focused on graduate programs and student support services. Among the academic units evaluated under Site 2 were the graduate programs of the College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, College of Business Administration and Accountancy, and College of Education.

Offices assessed under Site 1 included the University Registrar, Admission and Scholarship Coordinating Office, Civil Security Unit, Guidance and Counseling Office, Office of Student Development and Services, and the Learning and Academic Support Center (CCSID).

Throughout the audit activities, offices and academic units presented their respective operational systems, records, learner-centered services, and best practices that reflect the university’s dedication to efficiency, accountability, and institutional excellence. The evaluations also provided opportunities to strengthen internal systems and further align university operations with international quality management standards.

The ongoing Stage 2 Audit reflects the collective effort and commitment of the MSU–GenSan community as the university moves closer toward ISO certification. Faculty members, staff, administrators, and support personnel continue to work collaboratively in sustaining quality educational services and fostering a culture of excellence across the institution.

The ISO 21001:2018 Stage 2 Audit will continue in the succeeding days as additional colleges and offices undergo evaluation as part of the university’s five-day audit process.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: 𝐌𝐒𝐔–𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝-𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟑𝟐 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐋𝐄𝐓

Mindanao State University–General Santos proudly celebrates another historic achievement as it produced a record-breaking 32 topnotchers in the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LET), marking a milestone of excellence for the university and its teacher education programs.

Among the 32 topnotchers are 17 Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), 9 Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED), and 6 Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED).

Leading this historic achievement is Monnete L. Yap of the Bachelor of Elementary Education program, who secured Top 1 nationwide with an outstanding rating of 95.00%.

Adding to this remarkable feat, the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) program proudly celebrates its first batch of graduates and first LET takers from MSU–GenSan, who immediately made their mark by securing multiple Top 10 placements in the national examination.

Highlighting this milestone are the following topnotchers from different programs under the College of Education:

𝐓𝐎𝐏𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒

𝟏𝟕 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐃) topnotchers recorded a 100% passing rate among first-time takers, with an overall MSU–GSC Elementary passing rate of 90.53%.

𝟗 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐁𝐏𝐄𝐃) topnotchers led an outstanding performance as the program achieved a 100% passing rate in the March 2026 LET.

𝟔 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐁𝐒𝐄𝐃) topnotchers contributed to the university’s strong performance, with MSU–GSC Secondary Level recording a 95.57% passing rate among first-time takers and an overall passing rate of 87.08%.

Moreover, MSU–GenSan continues to strengthen its reputation for academic excellence and quality teacher education through the dedication and competence of its students, faculty mentors, and academic leaders in fostering excellence and producing globally competitive educators.
