On April 22, 2026, second-year BS Food Technology students from the University of Antique Hamtic Campus, under the supervision of faculty-in-charge Rex Mauricio Querubin, completed their second and final laboratory experiment at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) โ School of Technology, Miagao, Iloilo. This activity forms part of the continuing academic and technical collaboration between the two institutions.

The experiment, titled โBasic Canning Methods: Development of Canned Bangus in Tomato Sauce and Vegetable Oil,โ commenced with a pre-laboratory activity and proceeded to the experiment proper under the guidance of UPV faculty, Mr. Adrianne Fritz D. Parra, PFT, and Ms. Mary Pauline A. Jance, PFT. The activity concluded with a closing program.

The laboratory exercise emphasized fundamental principles of thermal processing and containerized food preservation. Students developed canned milkfish products and conducted critical evaluations, including determination of vacuum levels, measurement of headspace, net weight verification, and assessment of essential quality parameters to ensure product safety, stability, and compliance with processing standards.

As part of the activity, students designed product labels in accordance with the mandatory requirements of Administrative Order No. 2014-0030, reinforcing the integration of regulatory compliance in food processing.
This laboratory activity underscores the importance of applied learning in thermal processing technology and highlights the value of inter-institutional collaboration in enhancing technical competencies and practical skills in food processing.
