This activity is part of the Mainstreaming Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Initiative of The Department of Extension of MSU-IIT through the Volunteerism for Community Engagement Program (VOCEP) and in partnership with Kataas-taasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA).

VOCEP Core had a very productive and meaningful conversation from knowing each other's story (hugot), deepened understanding about volunteerism, and suggest activities that support the SDG's. The core group is composed of Faculty, staffs and students from MSU-IIT.

Next step is action planning.

The Department of Extension through its Volunteerism for Community Engagement Program (VOCEP) in partnership with U-inspire Mindanao and College of Engineering hosted a discussion on :Knowing Your Plastics, Knowing Your Waste today at CED Amphitheatre.

This activity was participated by the students, vocep volunteers and BLGU-Santigao. Dr. Maria Shile K. Ramos of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology and Engr. Joshua B. Zoleta of the Department of Materials and Resources Engineering Technology shared their knowledge on the science of plastics and how it has evolved since its invention and the Solid Waste Management Programs, the case ofJapan.

IN PHOTOS | VOLUNTEER STUDENTS from MSU-IIT took the today, September 14, 2019, launched by the Volunteerism for Community Engagement Program (VOCEP) in the barangays of Tubod and San Roque, Iligan City.

With the alarming cases of dengue outbreak in Iligan City, the VOCEP-Department of Extension conducted their in partnership with Philippine Red Cross and We Care Extension Program of MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology.

It was led by Ms. Charell Romano, Research Assistant from the Department of Extension and by Mr. Almer R. Susmiran, the KASAMA CAB Secretary for Community Extension.

The said event was first conducted at Brgy. Tubod which was declared by the LGU of the city, in state of calamity. It was then resumed at Brgy. San Roque, Prk. Sampaguita with 26 dengue cases under the supervision of their purok leader Mrs. Hyde M. Bunda.

Before the program started, the volunteers were given a short orientation by Ms. Dorina Juhuri, a Philippine Red Cross Personnel, about the purpose of the program and the condition of the community they choose for the clean-up activity. She emphasized ways to a Dengue-free community, the 4S: Search and Destroy; Self-Protection; Seek Early Consultation; and Say Yes to Fogging activity.

As the event began, precautionary measures were observed as the cleaning started. Everyone was given repellent for protection. Students swept, plucked grasses, and cleaned the congested drainage that are said to be the breeding area of the mosquitoes. People from the community also helped in the activity as they were given the same orientation on the importance of a clean environment. They guided the students in the cleaning of areas suspected to be resided by mosquitoes.

As the event came to an end, the people from the community extended their gratitude to the students of MSU-IIT and the organizations involved for orchestrating the program.
