Sometimes, school becomes more than just a place we go to every day. 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚. It is where most students find comfort, learn new things, discover themselves, and feel accepted despite the differences. However, the four corners of a classroom feel empty without someone standing in front of us, holding a laptop or papers, preparing our lessons, setting up a projector, or simply reminding us to listen and pay attention.

For years, we have seen countless teachers who continuously lead, guide, and encourage us as we take our steps toward the paths we choose. They do more than teach lessons from the syllabus. Through them, we learn values that we carry with us beyond the classroom.

So, let's take a moment to applaud all the teachers who passionately spend their lives year after year shaping new faces. Thank you for sowing knowledge and values in our hearts, for patiently guiding us, and for making us feel valued and cared for.

Your sacrifices and the love you have poured into every student will always be a part of who we become.

[Now Playing Ain't in LA by Adéla] 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚?! 👀 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚’𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑩𝑨𝑱 𝟐-𝑨! 😍

From the “baddest” officers, our 𝓒𝓸𝓶𝓶𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓮 𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓭𝓼 are also here to 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 (abaw, serve?! 😏). They try their best to give courage, direction, and a little push to the rest. Deadlines? Drama? They 𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒅. 💅

𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 ✅, 𝘿𝙤𝙘𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 ✅, 𝙇𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙩 ✅

They try to produce the best—something close to perfect and, of course, the “𝓫𝓪𝓭𝓭𝓮𝓼𝓽.” They’re the reason events push through and postings get done. Every “last call na” and “deadline by 11:59 pm” is basically a love language from people who care, show up, and choose teamwork over ego. 🥹

Being a Committee Head isn’t about the 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲, 𝗲𝗴𝗼, or 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲. It’s about showing up despite the hardships, taking charge when needed, and making sure that no one behind the scenes gets left behind. 🤝🏻

And lastly, they survived the 100th: “𝑮𝒖𝒚𝒔, 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒖𝒍𝒖𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒉𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒂?” “𝑮𝒖𝒚𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒐 𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒔 𝒊-𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕?” 😭😜

𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐍. 𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐍. 𝐈𝐏𝐀𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐍.

Sabi nila, hindi lahat ng bayani ay may suot na kapa. Ang iba, may kalyo sa kamay, araw sa balat, pagod sa katawan, at pamilyang laging nasa isip. May mga tahimik na bumabangon araw-araw, humaharap sa hirap, at patuloy na nakikibaka kahit walang kasiguraduhan kung kailan gagaan ang buhay.

Dahil kung ang mga bayani noon ay nakipaglaban para sa kalayaan, ang mga bayani ngayon ay patuloy na nakikibaka para may maipangtawid sa araw-araw, may maihain sa hapag, may maipaaral, at may maipamana na pag-asa sa susunod na henerasyon.

Ngayong araw na ito, hindi lamang natin inaalala ang mga nag-alay ng kanilang buhay sa kasaysayan. Ipinagdiriwang din natin ang mga taong patuloy na nagbibigay ng kanilang lakas, panahon, at sarili para sa bayan at sa kapwa Pilipino.

Sa paggunita, ang aral ay hawak. Sa paninindig, ang laban ay patuloy. Sa pagkilos, ang kabayanihan ay buhay.

𝗔 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱.

Behind every story published is a journalist who chose to ask, verify, investigate, and tell the truth, even when doing so means facing pressure, threats, intimidation, harassment, or being told to simply stay quiet. Press freedom is not merely the freedom to write what is convenient. It is the 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱, especially when the truth becomes uncomfortable for those in power.

And yet, history has shown us that 𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗧𝗛. It only reveals how desperately some people want it hidden.

This is why 𝗩𝗢𝗫 𝗟𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗦, the Voice of Freedom, carries a meaning far greater than its name. It reminds us that journalism is not simply about having a voice, but about 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱. A voice may be threatened, questioned, restricted, or drowned out, but as long as there are people willing to speak, listen, and seek the truth, 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱. Not by fear. Not by intimidation. Not by pressure. Not by the weight of those who would rather see the truth buried than reported.

Because 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲. It exists to question, to uncover, to hold power accountable and to give the unheard a space to be heard. When the truth demands a voice, 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲.

Our stories may be challenged. Our voices may be threatened. But our commitment to the truth will never be silenced.

Meet the elected class officers of 𝗕𝗔𝗝 𝟮𝗔 for 𝗦.𝗬. 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳; the ones who stepped up, took the responsibility, and are now ready to keep this block together. 💅🏻

Not all heroes wear capes. Some carry attendance sheets, collect contributions, remind everyone about deadlines, and survive the 30th “𝗴𝘂𝘆𝘀, 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮?” of the week. 😭

“𝑨𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊 𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒎𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒂 𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒌𝒂, 𝒅𝒂𝒊𝒈 𝒑𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒂𝒚𝒐𝒑 𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔𝒅𝒂.”

Ito ay isa lamang sa mga pahayag na binigyang-halaga ng bayaning lubos nating kinikilala, si 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐥. Patunay ito na ang wika ay nagtataglay ng malalim na kahulugan ng ating pagiging Pilipino.

Ngayong buwan ng Agosto, ating kilalanin at yakapin ang pagdiriwang ng 𝐁𝐮𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐚. Ang wika ay naging bahagi na ng buhay ng bawat isa sa atin at isang kayamanang malayang naipapamana sa mga bagong sibol na henerasyon.

Ang buwang ito ay hindi lamang isang palatandaan sa kalendaryo, kundi isang simbolo ng kultura, tradisyon, at pagkakakilanlan ng mga Pilipino. Hindi lamang ito tumatalakay sa galing ng paggamit ng wikang 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙤, ngunit hinihikayat din tayo nitong patuloy na 𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙗𝙪𝙝𝙖𝙮, 𝙥𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙣, 𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙣 ang wikang ating nakagisnan.

Kahit ilang henerasyon pa man ang lumipas at ilang wika pa man ang bumaybay sa ating kasaysayan, ang wikang 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙤 ay mananatiling buhay sa puso at diwa ng bawat Pilipino.

Kaya, sabay-sabay nating ipagmalaki at ipagbunyi ang 𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐭𝐢𝐧! 🇵🇭✨

𝗜𝗟𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗢 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗔𝗬

Long before Iloilo was formally inaugurated as a chartered city on August 25, 1937, it had already learned what it meant to grow.

Through Commonwealth Act No. 158, Iloilo City was formed by bringing together La Paz, Jaro, Mandurriao, and Arevalo, giving the city a new chapter in its long history. But the charter did not create Iloilo’s character. It simply gave recognition to a city that had already found its place in the country through its port, commerce, heritage, and the people who kept its streets alive.

There was a time when ships came and went through its waters carrying the wealth of a thriving sugar industry. Along its streets rose grand houses, old churches, schools, businesses, and places where generations of Ilonggos worked, dreamed, and built lives. Iloilo became known as the “Queen City of the South”, not merely because it prospered, but because it became a meeting place of enterprise, culture, and people.

But perhaps the most beautiful thing about Iloilo is that its story was never only about what it had. It is about what it continues to become.

A city that remembers where it came from while finding new ways to move forward. A city where heritage does not simply live behind old walls, but in the language spoken with warmth, in traditions carried from one generation to another, in the river that has witnessed its changing seasons, and in the quiet pride of people who simply call this place home.

Eighty-nine years since its charter, Iloilo remains more than a city shaped by history. It is a city still writing its own.

Today, we celebrate the streets that raised us, the stories that shaped us, and the people who continue to give Iloilo its soul. Happy Iloilo Charter Day.
