MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon โ Dante A. Damit, Program Chair of the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA), joined delegates from various higher education institutions (HEIs) across Mindanao at the "Research Proposal Development and Science Communication Academy - Phase II: Research Proposal Mentoring Bootcamp." The two-day capacity development activity was held on October 19โ20, 2026, at Bukidnon State University (BukSU).
Organized by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Mindanao Regional Cluster in partnership with BukSU, the bootcamp aimed to equip faculty members in the academe and researchers from across the region with the essential skills to craft, refine, and defend high-quality research proposals.
The intensive event featured a comprehensive lineup of sessions tailored to different academic disciplines, divided into four specific clusters: humanities and social sciences; physical, mathematical sciences and engineering; chemical and health sciences; and biological and agricultural sciences. Damit participated within the humanities and social sciences cluster, an area directly aligned with his leadership in the BPA program.
The first day focused on the mechanics of proposal writing and presentation. Participants engaged in "Proposal Pitching and Critiquing per Cluster" (Session 1), receiving immediate feedback from field experts, followed by a "Proposal Revision Workshop and Mentoring" (Session 2) to apply the critiques and strengthen their drafts.
Day two shifted focus to effectively communicating research. It featured a "Science Communication Workshop" (Session 4) focusing on presentation and critiquing, and a session on "Defending Your Proposal During Technical and En Banc Review" (Session 5) to prepare participants for rigorous academic scrutiny.
A major highlight of the event was the "Mock En Banc Proposal Defense by Cluster," which simulated the actual panel defense process. The afternoon concluded with a planning session for "Proposal Refinement and Submission," ensuring that the participants left the bootcamp with actionable steps for their research endeavors. The event officially wrapped up with a closing program and the awarding of certificates.
