Sultan Kudarat State University became the first university in Region 12 to join LANDBANK's Cash-Lite Campus Initiative, marking a significant step toward digital financial inclusion in the region as the program was formally launched at the SKSU Gymnasium ACCESS Campus on May 8, 2026.
SKSU President Dr. Samsom L. Molao welcomed the milestone partnership with pride. "We are the first university in Region 12 under Cash-Lite Campus [by LANDBANK,]" he said, underscoring the university's commitment to equipping its community with modern financial tools.
The initiative, spearheaded by LANDBANK South Mindanao Branch AVP Elmer E. Europa, promotes cashless and secure financial transactions among students and university personnel. Europa emphasized that the program removes the burden of carrying cash on campus, allowing students to receive financial assistance from government agencies more conveniently and securely.
Central to the program is the Piso Plus Account, introduced by Duyan Noel B. Calig-Onan, head of the LANDBANK Koronadal Branch. Designed with accessibility in mind, the account requires no initial deposit, lowering the barrier to entry for students and first-time account holders opening through the Mobile Banking Application.
Equipping participants to navigate the digital financial landscape safely was equally a priority. John Paul L. Capili, Senior Research Specialist from the BSM Mindanao Regional Office, walked attendees through the latest trends in online fraud and scams before introducing the concept of digital financial literacy, which the Alliance for Financial Inclusion defines as the knowledge, skills, confidence, and competencies needed to safely use digitally delivered financial products and make informed financial decisions. Raffle activities capped the event, drawing enthusiasm from students and personnel alike.
In his closing remarks, he reminded attendees that the Cash-Lite Campus Initiative is "not saying bye to cash forever" but an invitation for students and stakeholders to embrace safer, more responsible financial habits in an increasingly digital world.
