Words can do more than tell a storyโ€”they can spark conversations, shape perspectives, and inspire action.

Nursaeda A. Musaiya, Acting Officer-in-Charge of Hangadhulat Publication and a BS Nursing student of the College of Health Sciences, brought this power of words to the forefront as she earned the championship title in the Intercollegiate Essay Writing Contest held on August 13, 2026, at Notre Dame of Jolo College.

Competing under the theme โ€œMy Story, Our Climate: Empowering Youth Through Dialogue, Faith, and Climate Action in Sulu,โ€ Musaiya shared a compelling perspective on environmental preservation and the responsibility of the youth to take part in building a more sustainable future.

Her victory reflects not only her talent in writing, but also the growing voice of the youth in conversations that matter to Sulu and its future.

MSU-Sulu celebrates your achievement, Nursaeda! May your words continue to move hearts, awaken minds, and inspire meaningful climate action. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ‘

Mindanao State Universityโ€“Sulu mourns the tragic loss of lives and extends its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims, the injured, and all those affected by this heartbreaking incident.

In Islam, every human life is sacred and worthy of protection. The Qurโ€™an reminds us, โ€œWhoever saves one life, it is as if he had saved all mankindโ€ (Qurโ€™an 5:32). Guided by this teaching, we are called to protect our children, care for the vulnerable, and uphold our schools as safe spaces for learning, dignity, and hope.

As One MSU family, may we respond to this tragedy with sabr (patience), rahmah (mercy), and solidarity. May Allah grant mercy to those who lost their lives, healing to the wounded, strength to the grieving families, and peace to our communities. May this sorrow deepen our compassion and strengthen our commitment to protecting one another. Ameen.
