โThe University of Southern Mindanao (USM) Bโdadali Dance Troupe proudly represented the Philippines at the Sarawak International Festival for Music and Arts (SIFMA) 6.0, held at the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Sarawak State Legislative Assembly in Kuching City, Sarawak, Malaysia, on December 6โ7, 2025.
โ
โSIFMA is an annual international festival that celebrates music, dance, and fashion, featuring performers and artists from around the world. The festival serves as a platform for cultural exchange and showcases diverse artistic expressions.
โ
โDuring the event, the troupe showcased โDumendingan,โ a vibrant traditional bamboo dance of the Subanen people from the Zamboanga Peninsula in Mindanao, Philippines. The dance celebrates a bountiful harvest and community harmony, featuring dancers skillfully stepping in rhythm while navigating clashing bamboo poles. This dance, researched by Mr. Odysso D. Oyales, was presented alongside talented groups and individual artists from Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, and other participating countries.
โ
โThe USM Bโdadali Dance Troupe expresses its heartfelt gratitude for all the people who made this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase Filipino talent on an international stage.
โ
โThe troupe gratefully acknowledges the SIFMA Organization, led by Dr. Geraldine Law-Lee, for providing a platform where their artistry and cultural heritage could be shared with a global audience.
โ
โThey also recognize the invaluable support of Governor Emylou โLalaโ J. Taliรฑo-Mendoza, Congresswoman Ma. Alana Samantha T. Santos, and Mayor Evangeline Pascua-Guzman, whose belief in the power of culture and the arts helped make this international participation possible.
โ
โDeep appreciation is extended to the USM community, led by University President Jonald Pimentel, whose constant trust and belief in the troupeโs artistry continue to inspire every performance and pursuit.
โ
โAcknowledgment is also given to Sir Bryan Bretaรฑa, Head of the International Relations Office (IRO) of USM, for his invaluable support and dedicated behind-the-scenes efforts that greatly contributed to the smooth coordination and overall success of the troupeโs international participation.
โ
โSpecial recognition is given to the University Culture and Arts (UCA) Director, Prof. Jessa S. Buisan, the driving force behind the troupeโs success, whose guidance, dedication, and passion continuously hone the dancers to become better artists and cultural ambassadors.
โ
โGratitude is likewise extended to the College of Human Kinetics (CHK) Dean, Dr. Norge D. Martinez, for her guidance and unwavering support throughout the troupeโs journey in Malaysia.
โ
โThe troupe also extends its appreciation to Sir Mark Malony Martinez and Maโam Debra Leow for their warm welcome, generosity, and hospitality during their stay in Malaysia.
โ
โFinally, to all individuals, partners, staff, and supporters who extended their help in big and small ways โ through time, resources, encouragement, and prayers โ your contributions did not go unnoticed and were vital to the success of this endeavor.
โ
โThis achievement is for everyone who has been part of the USM Bโdadali Dance Troupeโs legacy โ the pioneers, mentors, alumni, and members who paved the way and laid the foundation for this milestone. This experience has strengthened our identity as artists, deepened our pride as Filipinos, and inspired us to continue sharing our culture with the world.
