IFSUโTESDA Partnership Empowers Women Through Food Processing Training, Advancing SDGs
Empowering communities through skills, collaboration, and innovation, the Food Processing Training titled โFruits and Vegetable Preservation: Processed Food by Sugar Concentrate and Picklingโ was successfully conducted and concluded on March 20, 2026. The project is an extension activity of the College of Advanced Education, Lagawe Campus of Ifugao State University (IFSU), implemented in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Ifugao.
The initiative highlights the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in achieving SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Conducted in line with the celebration of Womenโs Month, the activity also promotes SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by equipping women with practical skills that enhance their capacity for livelihood and community participation.
The training directly benefited the Siera Madre RIC Women Organization of Barangay Magulon, Lamut, Ifugao, by addressing the challenge of surplus fruits and vegetables. Through hands-on food preservation techniques, the project supports SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by improving food utilization and reducing waste. At the same time, it contributes to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by creating opportunities for income generation and sustainable livelihood.
The project was led by Dr. Fernando G. Hernando (Dean, College of Advanced Education, IFSU Lagawe Campus), Dr. Maritess K. Alberto (Master of Arts in TLE Program Chairperson), Ms. Leonida P. Culhi (IFSU Faculty), Ms. Gina Deborah D. Numbanong, and Ms. Maribel B. Binwihan (CAE MATLE Students). Through their leadership and collaboration, participants successfully produced tomato jam, tomato wine, tomato vinegar, and pickled cucumber, demonstrating value-adding practices that promote SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
The organizers extend their sincere appreciation to Barangay Captain Mr. Daniel U. Nahig, the president of the Siera Madre RIC Women Organization, Ms. Ethel L. Dulnuan, as well as to all partners, speakers, and participants for their invaluable contributions. This initiative serves as a strong example of how academic institutions, government agencies, and local communities can work together to empower individuals and promote sustainable development.
