REMINISCING 101 : TEACHERS
Early last year, I got the rare chance to be together with some of my dearest friends in high school decades after graduation. It was still the same “us” except maybe for the grown up faces: loud, naughty and always young at heart. We had a great time. I know that a homecoming is in the offing and for sure this one would be grand – attendance wise…sans my presence, again.
If I were there, more than seeing my high school batch mates and friends, I’d like to see my former teachers.Where are they now? Will they also be there? They must have all retired. Randomly, I can still vividly remember them. The likes of Ms. Alegato, our Freshman English teacher and adviser could never be put into oblivion. When Google is such a touch away thing now, a dictionary is a must in her class at that time. Up to this day, I would still jot down words that I do not know when reading. Thanks to her strict spelling, vocabulary and grammar lessons. I cannot forget Mrs. Navarro’s Science class and the classic “push and pull” and how funny it was segued to “to produce people”. I hate Math but Mrs. Camtan’s Algebra was a walk in the park, I (along with Vivian) remembered getting exempted from the finals. Mrs. Demontano’s upper part blackboard was reserved for flaunting highest scores. Has your name been there once? Mrs. Billena’s World History class in Filipino was tough. Spartans, Romans, Ottomans and all the ancient empires – watching a movie about them made me remember the class. I still remember up to now the inductive and deductive reasoning in Geometry courtesy of Mrs. Constantino. Mrs. Alegria on the other hand was the only one who taught both English and Pilipino – one of a kind. Mr. Caldito was our sophomore agriculture teacher who taught us the basics of parliamentary procedure. I remembered our team beating all other teams for that year in the competition, of course, at the helm of the best debater, the now Judge Dodoy Eugene C. Who can’t forget the motherly Mrs. Cabardo, our adviser as seniors? Everyone may hate Math (Adv. Algebra & Trig) but she taught us to love it. Who else? Mrs. Cabarang for our Freshman Math; Mrs. Clavel for Filipino (Freshman and Senior); Mrs. Guillergan for Chemistry; the late Ms. Cantara for Biology; Mr. Zaragosa for Social Studies. Mr. Cablas , Mr. Clavel for Agriculture, (paki-add na lang sa comments ang nalipatan/ we may have different teachers as per section)
I wish I could be there, I wish they (teachers) will be there and if only to say thank you to each one of them. They are a big part of us, who molded and shaped us to what have we become - they definitely deserved a big , big THANK YOU from us.
