The second day of the 53rd Annual Convention of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP), scholars, researchers, and educators rolled for a series of plenary lectures and parallel research presentations exploring the expanding frontiers of mathematics.
Co-organized by Pangasinan State University, the convention continued to serve as a platform for intellectual exchange, highlighting how mathematical research addresses complex challenges across science, technology, healthcare, and society.
๐๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ expressed support for the convention and expressed his appreciation for the contributions of mathematics to various disciplines and everyday life.
Dr. Galas lauded participants to continue to demonstrate how mathematical inquiry serves as a powerful tool for understanding complex systems and developing solutions to contemporary challenges.
Among the featured speakers was ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ป๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ of Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia, who presented โFrom Weak U-Homology to Machine Learning: Topological Methods for Noisy and Structured Data,โ illustrating how advanced topological approaches can enhance machine learning systems and data analysis.
๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ถ ๐. ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ผ๐ด๐ผ of the University of the Philippines- Baguio explored the intersection of mathematics and healthcare through his lecture, โHow Can Mathematics Help Shape the Future of Medical Treatment?โ His presentation emphasized the growing importance of mathematical modeling and quantitative methods in modern medicine.
Moreover, ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐บ of the National University of Singapore delivered a talk titled โWhat We Count When We Count Contacts: Contact Patterns in Infectious Disease Modeling.โ Her lecture highlighted the critical role of contact data in understanding disease transmission and improving public health responses.
The afternoon sessions featured parallel presentations covering areas of mathematical research, including Algebra, Applied Mathematics, Graph Theory and Combinatorics, Analysis, and Statistics. Researchers from various institutions shared their latest findings, advancing collaboration and knowledge exchange within the mathematical community.
University officials and MSP leaders joined the academic activities, with Dr. Galas and ๐๐ผ๐๐ฒ spearheaded initiatives that strengthen mathematics education, research and innovation in the country.
