;
Every story has a beautiful introduction to it, and within the chapters, the protagonist has to go through pains and twists, but the author doesnโ€™t stop there; he uses a semicolon. This is a reminder that our story too doesnโ€™t just end at our pains and miseries; we are all allowed to rest at our semicolons.

World Su***de Prevention Day knocks at our hearts, urging us to choose kindness and remind one another of our semicolons, rather than treating each other harshly and putting an end to our stories. The International Association for Su***de Prevention holds on to the theme of โ€œChanging the Narrative on Su***de,โ€ aiming to transform the silent culture into an open and understanding one.

In a world where we can be anything, be kind. Let us not forget that our compassion goes a long wayโ€”it might be the semicolon someone else needs to keep going.

It is far better to talk through your struggles endlessly with someone today than for your loved ones to discuss it after youโ€™re gone. Day or night, help is always within reach.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: The In God, Nurturing Inspired Students (IGNIS) Campus Ministry of the University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) led the recitation of the Holy Rosary in celebration of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the right wing of the study area, Sep. 8.

The prayers were recited by the members of the IGNIS Campus Ministry, the faculty, and student organizations from both high school and college departments. Approximately 30 attendees convened at the time of the recitation to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ and the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

During the recitation, a total of five mysteries of the Holy Rosary were meditated upon to foster faith, devotion, and reflection among participants. The prayers include recitations of Ama Namin, Aba Ginoong Maria, Luwalhati, and Panalangin ni Fatima to complete the mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

The recitation proceeded through designated representatives from high school and college organizations including the Student Government (SG), Guild of Aspiring Psychologists (GAPsy), Sigma Theta Tau, Junior Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (JPIIE), Future Educators Union (FEU), Gens Animus Voxvocis Excellentia Liberum (GAVEL), Association of Future Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs (AFBE), and Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA), who led transitions between each mysteries and the Hail Holy Queen.

Decades of commitment took center stage as the University of Batangas (UB) honored its long-term employees during the Service Awards 2026, themed โ€œA Legacy Worth Honoring, Service That Leaves a Mark,โ€ at the Juan Y. Javier Culture and Arts Building, Sept. 4.

Administrators, faculty, and staff gathered to recognize employees reaching milestone anniversaries of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service.

The program opened with a 1 PM Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Ildefonso Dimaano. The celebration served as an expression of gratitude to God for the awardeesโ€™ fruitful years of dedication and a reminder of the responsibilities that accompany the recognition they were about to receive.

Delivering the opening remarks, UB President Lily Marlene Hernandez-Bohn commended the honorees for their lasting impact.

โ€œYour years of service not only represent the time you spent in UB but the numerous contributions, sacrifices, life lessons, and happy memories that you treasure in your heart,โ€ said the UB President.

Among the Service Awardees from the Lipa campus were Ms. Milette De Torres, Ms. Kim Lorraine Fernando, Ms.Glenda Fesalbon, and Ms. Joan Pauline Talan, who were recognized for 10 years; Dr. Olive Calingan, Dr. Minerva Chavez and Dr. Precious Naj Alcantara for 15 years; Ms. Mila Dela Cruz for 20 years; and Atty. Mayling Ilagan-Capuno for 30 years.

In his closing remarks, Atty. Jesus V. Mayo, the Chairman of the Board of Regents, announced the incentives to be granted to the employees in celebration of the universityโ€™s 80th founding anniversaryโ€”an announcement met with enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

The celebration concluded at the UB Millennium Gymnasium, where employees gathered for the UBian Gala and a special dinner, capping a day dedicated to recognizing their years of service and commitment to the university.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: The Science Works Traveling Science Centrum featured 25 different interactive displays, hands-on experiments, and working models tested and observed by high school and college students from the University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) at the UBLC Gymnasium, Sept. 3.

According to Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology (PFST) Communication Officer Jian Fadul, the exhibit aims to bring excitement to students, encourage them to explore how science works, and revitalize their perspectives on the impact and identity of science.

โ€œTinawag siyang โ€˜Science Worksโ€™ because ipinapakita namin na kahit komplikado ang science, madali siyang maintindihan if you visualize it, if you have interaction with it," Fadul explained.

He added that the exhibit was brought to campus for UBโ€™s 80th anniversary celebration through the initiative of Atty. Mayling Capuno and support from High School Principal Jeff Litan.

Students from the University of Batangas main campus are also expected to visit and participate in the exhibit during the remaining days of the eight-day event.

Every last Monday of August, we commemorate the "Cry of Pugad Lawin" in 1896, which marked the beginning of the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial rule. We look back on the extraordinary bravery and ultimate sacrifices of those who secured our independenceโ€”Andres Bonifacio, Josรฉ Rizal, Apolinario Mabini, and the countless named and unnamed revolutionaries who dared to dream of a free and sovereign Philippines. Their courage laid the foundation of the nation we call home today.

But National Heroes Day isn't just about reading history books; itโ€™s about carrying the torch forward. It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices that bought our freedom and ask ourselves how we can build a better Philippines for the next generation.

Heroism isn't always about wielding a sword or leading a revolution. Sometimes, itโ€™s about standing up for what is right, serving your community, and showing up even when times are tough. As we remember the giants of our past, letโ€™s ask ourselves, โ€œHow can we be heroes in our own ways today? โ€

Happy National Heroes Day to every Filipino fighting noble battles every single day.

30/08/2026

In every corner where stories unfold, press freedom remains the compass of democracy. It points us toward truth when disinformation clouds the horizon, reminding us that journalism is not a privilege but a duty to the people.

This day, August 30, now recognized under Republic Act No. 11699 as National Press Freedom Day, honors Marcelo H. del Pilar, whose words in La Solidaridad lit the spark of resistance and awakened a nationโ€™s conscience. His legacy lives on in every journalist who dares to question power, expose injustice, and defend transparency.

Yet the struggle continues. Harassment, red-tagging, and digital threats remind us that the fight for press freedom is far from over. These sacrifices show that integrity often comes at great personal cost.

Press freedom is not only about resisting censorshipโ€”it is also about combating complacency. Upholding accuracy, fairness, and accountability ensures the press remains a beacon, not a weapon.

Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to defend the truth, to honor the courage of journalists, and to stand united in safeguarding the voice of a free press.

Magkaisa tayo sa pagtatanggol ng katotohanan, sapagkat ang kalayaan ng pamamahayag ay kalayaan ng lahat.
