♻️ BIO 151 Symposium Highlights: Practice of Environmental Management in the Philippines ♻️
It’s a wrap!
The BIO 151 Symposium, organized by BIO 151 students from Sections U and X, was held last April 27 at the IBS Main Lecture Hall.
The event brought together UPLB students and four esteemed guest speakers from various sectors to foster insightful conversations on current environmental management practices and initiatives in the Philippines.
The one-day symposium delved deeper on solid waste management practices and initiatives of Calapan City; the management of protected areas; research and scientific approaches on environmental management in UPLB-INREM; and responsible operations in the private sector to promote sustainable practices and innovations in environmental management.
The symposium highlights that sustainability is not just about policies, but about how organizations understand and manage their impact—using resources responsibly, reducing harm, protecting natural ecosystems, supporting communities, and creating long-term business value.
In essence, environmental management serves as the operational backbone of sustainability, guided by the cycle: measure, manage, monitor, and improve because effective management starts with accurate measurement.
The students of both BIO 151 sections extend their heartfelt gratitude for the speakers, participants, and the Institute for creating an avenue of knowledge sharing that extends beyond classroom discussions on practices towards a greener future. 🌏
